X-Wing 2.0 is not too bad. This game is probably challenging because of the lack of speed when running it and a few bugs. I would recommend that the code for the menus be looked over, because they don't need to flash like they do when waiting for a key to be pressed. There could also be optimizations made. For instance, there seems to be some lines of code that say "sin(cos(tan(X" which don't seem to do anything except waste space and processor cycles. As for bugs, I can't seem to figure out if the enemy is flying toward or away. Obviously, if I'm getting shot at I would assume that it is flying at me, but it never seems to get close.
This game does surprise me in its size. It is actually quite small for a 3D game at only 5kb. If the 3D engine is truly 3D, then a few modifications might be able to make a great game out of this. The only two hurdles that might prevent potential greatness is the flicker and lack of speed when running the game, which are both problems with games written in BASIC. A possible solution might be to use some ASM in the program.
Overall, its a great idea that needs a little more fine tuning. |
