What are the criteria for hosting a site at ticalc.org?
We host only TI-related web sites of two kinds. One kind is
software "companies" who develop games or programs for TI calculators and have
released games or programs in the past. The other type is informational sites
with content such as tutorials or hardware information. It is our intention
not to host "competing" sites (for example, those with separate file archives).
We only host 'established sites', meaning that the site has to be up and
running before you get hosted, to make sure it's an active site.
What would my site's new address be?
Hosted sites may choose a third-level domain (such as
yoursite.ticalc.org).
How will I maintain my site?
Each site will be maintained by an FTP account on our server.
How much space may I use for my site?
We offer 20 MB for each hosted site.
Can I use custom CGIs for hit counters, guestbooks, etc.?
We will not offer CGI capabilities. Right now there are no exceptions.
However, commodity features such as counters, guestbooks, forums, and voting
booths are freely available from a number of outside sites.
Do I have to change the look of my site to fit with ticalc.org's
design?
Yes, all hosted sites must be assimilated into the mother site! (Just
kidding.) In fact, we insist that each hosted site maintain its unique design.
Is an email account included with the hosting?
Sort of. Email to (anyaddress)@yoursite.ticalc.org will be
forwarded to an existing email address of your choice. We do not offer POP or
other email accounts; free email accounts are very easy to come by, in any
case.
Why would I choose to host at ticalc.org instead of, for example,
GeoCities?
Unlike most other free hosting services, we provide advertising-free
hosting. We
also offer more disk space than most free services and more reliable hosting.
Perhaps most importantly, hosted sites will receive special exposure from
visitors to ticalc.org (either through a direct link on the front page or from
a special "hosted sites" page). In addition, your site's address will be much
shorter than the typical GeoCities URL. :)
How can I sign up?
Note! We are currently not accepting new sites
for hosting.
To apply for hosting on our server, first check that your site meets the
criteria above and that our offerings meet your needs. Then send email to
hosting@ticalc.org with your
site's address and description, along with what address you'd like
(yoursite.ticalc.org). Remember, you must already have a site; we do
not offer empty web space. Feel free to email us with any questions about the
information above. All hosted sites are subject to our approval that they
meet our stated requirements.
Sites are required to agree to a contract before being hosted.
