TI-83 Plus RULES TI-82 & Down (including TI-85) sucks!

<off topic>
I think there is more to TI-BASIC then what everybody says. It is possible to network between to calculators using BASIC. The problem is enabling system flags and doing ROM calls. But there is an ASM compiler written completely in BASIC (83 Plus section). I know everyone is going to say my 89 is better then your 83 plus. I agree. 89's have a wider screen & smaller pixels. But TI-85's can't compete. The interface is horrible. And programming is kind of limited. And TI-82 is the only kind NOT to have a catalog! That's utter Bull$h!t. Ok. I'm done. Off to RadioShack to buy a TI-89 (I have to bike 3 miles).

P.S. I think it's Bull$h!t that the TI-83 has more RAM then a TI-83 Plus.

P.S.S. There is a new SDK for the 89/92+ for free @ ti.com.

Don't dis the 82! Meany-poo!

BASIC stinks, okay? That's all there is to it. Basic is slow, stupid, stupid, stupid, and did I mention stupid? It's only good for programming on the calc, without a computer, which is stupid, stupid... ASM IS BETTER SO BLAH!

It's okay, flame me, I don't care. This wasn't supposed to be a flame either, in case you took it that way. I just strongly prefer assembly over basic. Thank you for flying on no_one_2000_ airlines. Okay, I'm sorry for being a meany-poo. I prefer ASM too. But BASIC can be enhanced using ASM programs. True, BASIC is slow, but sometimes that can be an advantage. Like if you make a Micro$haft Winblows imitation & you want a scrolling line slow enough to see, then go with BASIC.

I thought they would have already. It's older than the TI-86, and they've already discontinued that (or so I've heard).

Maybe I should get another TI-86. Then I could test my networking programs more easily. Plus, I want a newer ROM version. Currently I have version 1.2.

technically, they haven't discontinued the 86. they still make it. but, they barely support it and everything they do has either 83+se or 89 plastered all over it. TI is, IMO, losing a lot of profit from the 86 they could make if they marketed it as a compromise between 89's functionality and 83's cost (unless you are talking about an se, which is as much as the 89). This could be even greater if they made an 86+, which could be nearly identical to the 86, but contain FLASH technology, which is basically the staple of the others.

But, if you meant they discontinued the 85, then you are correct.

question on 83+: people said a while ago that the 83+ is "upgradable." is this referring to the flash apps, or can you actually download a newer rom from ti and install it on your calc?

there are good reasons why the 83 has more RAM than the 83+. they start off with a base ram size of 32k, now the TIOS has to take up some part right? well, which has more functionality? 83+, so you have less ram on the 83+.

But The TI-89 Has like 188kb of RAM or Something & it has almost the same amount of options as the TI-92 Plus. I'm not sure. My friend just told me to wait on buying a TI-89, he said there will be a TI-89 Plus. But you don't need a TI-89 Plus because the TI-89 already has Flash ROM. Can someone enlighten me here? And can't the TI-92 have FlashApps? I'M SO CONFUSED!!!

TI-92 can have a plus module added. The TI-85 was replaced by the TI-86 which is being discontinued too.
Paul Schippnick  Account Info
(Web Page)

Unless the TI-92 plug in Plus module has been discontiuned, the TI-92+ features can be added to the discontinued TI-92. The only thing the module doesn't add to the TI-92 is the darker and better contrast LCD, which the TI-92 Plus has and the TI-89 has. The module retails directly from the TI store for $75. Avaibality of this module, best I can tell been limited. I have not seen it listed on the TI store site. BTW, I have two TI-85 and one TI-86. There are a number of differences between the TI BASICs in these calculators. The TI-85 & TI-86 BASICs are case sensitive, whera as the TI-82, TI-83's,TI-92's and TI-89 BASICs are NOT case sensitive. So on the TI-85 and TI-86, the variables 'M' and 'm" would be different. Not so on the others. So tranfering a program from the TI-85 to the TI-92 can be a problem, where as the TI-82 to the TI-92 would not be as much work to transfer.
There are other differences. So like if the value of 10 is stored in variable C and the calculation 1/2C is done on the TI-85 or TI-82 you will get .050. Where as on the TI-86 and all the others you will get 5. There are differences.

Where'd you get the idea that TI-83 BASIC is not case-sensitive? Z (user-defined real/complex variable) is totally different from z (STAT test statistic).

Basic programming on the TI-85 not that different than the TI-83 Plus uses, in fact. Though the TI-85 version is actually less limited since you have more choices of variable names. For assembly, remember that there were many TI-85 assembly programs available even before the TI-83 Plus was released. After all, the TI-85 was the first TI calculator assembly was used on. And of course the larger display, and especially the fact that the screen is memory-mapped on the TI-85 mean that it lacks many of the TI-83+'s annoying limitations.

With regard to the interface, note that on the TI-85 menus do not take up the whole screen, so you can easily see what you are selecting an item for, while also viewing the menu. This doesn't seem horrible to me.

What I'm saying is TI-85 isn't as user friendly as the 83+. The wider screen is nice, but it's old. The one calc that is very confusing is the Casio Color one. It may have three colors, but the interface is similar to PuzzPack (not to dis PuzzPack(for 83+(my favorite game (one of the first FlashApps (I'm turning into Chickendude with these parentheses))))). And the on button is where the Clear button should be. AAAAAAAAAAAAH! TOO MANY CALCULATORS!!! TO LITTLE MONEY. Why is TIGL USB $55? My COM port's broken so I have no other choice but to buy it. I don't mean to dis anybody's calculator but from what i've seen I had to comment.

The square brackets on TI calculators is used for matrices. if you type [[3,1][2,4]] you will get a 2x2 matrix with the first row containing 3 and 1 and the second row containing 2 and 4. This is very handy if you want to type in a small matrix once, but don't try your hand at large matracies unless you have lots of free time on your hands.
