How, may I ask, is that a stupid thing to say? Most people don't know how to set up their computer for a LAN, and have someone else do it for them. Based on your post, I wouldn't believe that you can.

BTW, most people on here are in high school, with some in college, so being in high school is no big deal.

(If you feel that you must add your opinion about my post, email me. My post is already off-topic, and god knows that the fuckasses here at ticalc.org are fucking anal about off-topic posts.)

Setting up a LAN is a very trivial task and only requires minimal computer skills. Many high school students, such as myself, are capable of doing it.

While most efnet servers require identd, there are some servers that don't. These are the ones to use if you are on a LAN. OR, you could set up an identd server on the gateway. There are endless possiblilities.

OK, one, I know quite a bit about LANs (I have the CCNA certification).
Two, most people in my school don't know how, or for that matter, care how to do it.

Sure, most people can set up a small LAN, with a hub, maybe a switch, but only a small percentage of said people can set up and configure a router, or shit like that.

If you are on a LAN and too dumb to be able to port forward (for the ident server) you can't get on IRC

LoL... I'm on a LAN too but I don't have any restrictions as to where I wanna go.

I use mIRC to download various things and sometimes chat.

But I forgot what day this thing was, so oh well! =P

I had that problem too, it seemed to depend on what client program I used.

I, too am on a LAN. My dad set up a proxy server, but ever since I had to reinstall Win2k, my username has been disabled, so I can't get on IRC right now.

why are you using a proxy server. why don't us software such as winroute to handle your requests. or even better a router.

It isn't really my choice, like I said, my dad installed it. The proxy actually is software, running on WinNT 4 server. My problem isn't with the proxy, I like the proxy, it is with my username being disabled for a while.

I run a LAN at home, and the computers on it can do anything but run servers because I'm too lazy to set up port mapping. ;) You need an Identd server to log onto most IRC networks. If you don't have one on your LAN server, IRC doen't like it. Also if you only have a crappy HTTP only proxy, (like my old school) you can't get on IRC.

why does it matter what comment you posted? i think if you are that fast to react to a message board then you need to get a life.

Or maybe its when you go to this site, maybe they put up the comment and like 5 minutes later the person that got first comment got to the site...it's not like he knows exactly when the comment is going to come out.

Yes, it's not always a good idea to say you have the first comment because often somebody else had the first comment without your realizing it. Browsers will only show you what comments are there at the exact moment you go to that page or hit the Refresh button.
