Wow! I'm the first comment in this discussion! Well, I don't subscribe to the newsletter or even read it. Why would I want to? These calculators are great tools for math, but why the hell would I want to make it a hobby or anything like that?

Why wouldn't you want to make a hobby of it?? Besides being great tools for math, these things are actually little PCs, and thus tons of fun! These things are great to program games for because of the challenge; one needs to be creative to make a good game. Plus, they feature a really good version of BASIC (TI-8X anyways). If I knew ASM, I wouldn't use BASIC, but a lot of the ASM games I've played suck anyways because of the low refresh rate of the display...these things aren't just tools, they are pure entertainment!

The heck are you talking about? If anyone needs a therapist it's you, because this site is for TI calculator hobbyists and you're insulting someone for having calculators as a hobby.

I agree with this guy. Sure, these calculators are fun. I own three of them, 85, 92, & 89. But I don't center my life around them like the majority of you guys do. Get a life.

You must be kidding me. You have an account on a TI calculator site, post in its discussions, have a user profile that says you program TI-Basic, and you don't think TI calculators would be a good hobby? That sounds like a hobby to me. And TI calculators are cool, there's no reason why they shouldn't be a hobby if you enjoy them.

"Wow! I'm the first comment in this discussion!"

ANd, by drawing attention to this fact, you are likely to get your post deleted.

"These calculators are great tools for math, but why the hell would I want to make it a hobby or anything like that?"

Obviously you must have a reason or you wouldn't have an account at ticalc.org.

I made this account and its profile a little over a year ago, and since then I have lost interest in TI calculators. I just never felt like taking the time to change my profile. Occasionally I check back to see what the latest survey is or to check for new games to play during class (after I finish my work).

I never read the newsletter until yesterday. And then I only read the first paragraph because I thought it was boring.

Yes, I do. I am not subscribed to it but I check ticalc.org for updates often enough so that I see any new newsletters. My email box is cluttered enough as it is. =-)

I like the ticalc.org newsletter. It's usually pretty interesting and if nothing else, it contains an interview with a different person each month. It's also better done than any other TI newsletters that I've seen. In addition, it's more regular.

Yeah, it is usually on time. I was referring to how there aren't really any other monthly newsletters, though, because some months, they don't come out at all. I wouldn't especially mind if ticalc.org's was a day or two late because I might not even notice. =-)

On an unrelated note: Hays Games Corp returns with more crappy, but possible original games! This is an extreme rarity, releasing *Original* work!

If you like games like 2 player guess, and games that exist only to bash Joe W's SOS shell, head to Hays's site and get ubercrappy *Original* games!

Just think... if he used ARPGCS instead of TI-BASIC his crappy games might be worth downloading...

Offtopic, but this is news post worthy...

I was just at tict.ticalc.org, and TICT will release an explorer that is, quoting from their website (which also has a screenshot)...

-NOSTUB program (runs on any AMS version without any kernel installed
-full C source code release (as usual)
-starts exe-packed programs directly (no launchers necessary)
-support for ebooks

Simply put, TICT RULES!

There are almost too many TI-89 shells around... maybe this one'll have an edge because it's nostub.
