Aren't games the only reason TIs were made? I'm serious, some of these people say you use it for math, but it is all about gettin a bunch of cool games%

I used to have nearly all my stuff, but what's the point of a calculator, defined as a "mechanical or electronic device for the automatic performance of mathematical operations" for just games. yeah, they're great and all, but you really should:

the program you are thinking of is "ptero" as in pterodactyl, the most famous flying reptile from the mesozoic era. it used to be a dinosaur, but the definition of 'dinosaur' has been restricted to only those animals that lived in terrestrial habitats, thereby eliminating the flying reptiles and further eliminating the swimming reptiles from the category of 'dinosaur'.

what is this 'life' thing i keep hearing about on message boards here? i've encountered 'the meaning of life' in my theory of knowledge class, but i do not know of what form of life you are referring to. maybe i should send my query to slashdot, or some other popular site. perhaps then i shall know what you are referring to, as well as the progenitor of a very large thread on the record-holding 'wacky fun random numbar generator' board.

When I had my 86 it would almost be 100%

But now that I have my 89 with ams 2.03 i do not keep anything in ram. So I voted 75%

RAM vs. Flash

It doesn't matter what's in your RAM. The question says "memory" implying RAM and Flash!
My Flash is full and my RAM is darn close!

I checked 25%... okay, I have to have ZTetris, Phoenix, etc. on my 83+, but the rest is devoted to "programs under development" -- programs that typically are ephemerae, but sometimes turn out to be well-polished pieces of calculator software.

I have that same problem. I've Got AShell on my 86 and four games, then the rest is filled with a half completed Hic Quest 4, half completed Castles type game, many Casino games, etc. I just don't get them done due to time constraints (Job, School, Band, Community Service, that life thing, C++, computer programs under development, web site maintinence etc.....)

I used to use AShell, then tried other shells, all of which crashed my calc, so I gave up shells and use the BASIC command Asm(

I own a 83+ and I have the same problem. The space is never enough, because those demo-RPGs takes a lot of space. Also, I have many apps such as MirageOS or Startup. The apps take lots of space, too. Luckily, we have archive space, which normal 83 doesn't have.

Speaking of memory restraints, are there any 83 assembly programers willing to help convert the driver for the Expander 2? It is a memory expander that holds 512k. They have working drivers for the 85, 86, and 92. He says: "I have posted the source sent to me by those working on the TI-83 port. It is not finished, but it is very close and I encourage any TI-83 programmer that is interested to finish it."
The URL will take you to the page. Oh, yeah. He also says "Anyone seriously interested in doing a port will get, at my discretion, a free E2 or free E2 parts."

How much of my TI-83's memory is devoted to games:
Probyte Account Info

I have a TI-83 and it wish so much it had more memory. 28K is nothing. I've though of buying a plus just for the exra archive ram! The TI-83 does, however have it's small advantages to the plus, such as many more ASM games. However, MirageOS rocks! I wish I could get it for the 83 but it's too big.

I have AShell on my calc, and mostly math programs such as Mapping, which is great for transformational geometry. I only takes about 4K, so I still have space for some cool games, like ZTetris.

The 83+ has less RAM than the 83. Could you be thinking of Flash ROM? ;)

How much memory? and if calc gets reset does it stay?

89 has almost 200k RAM, and like just over 700K ROM.

And the ROM stays after a reset, officialy by TI.

What does 83(+) have compared to this?

The 83+ has about ~180K of ROM space which can be used to hold stuff. Your rom will survive a ram clear after a prog crashes or you are so slow changing your batteries that your backup battery dies (my old 82 hasn't had batteries since May and still has all the stuff on it). Basically, if your calc crashes while you play a game, you only lose that game if you keep all your programs archived.

Ever since I got MirageOS I keep every program in ROM. This keeps RAM available to math stuff like matrices and Y= stuff. Also, RAM has 24-26K of memory.

If you make a backup group file and archive it then you won't even lose the game that crashed when you ungroup then just regroup.
Hopefully that made sense.

There is also an archive recover program for MirageOS that can often restore programs that crash. It's a pretty small program too.

in mirage, when you take off the saving of archived program... and maybe even when that's on, i'm not sure... nothing is lost except for things in ram. mirage just copies the program to ram, it doesn't take it out of flast like ION

Also, if you are using MirageOS, you can turn WriteBack off and then you won't even lose the program you are running if your calc crashes. Of course you can't save your high scores that way, but oh well.
