Surprised someone said they had an F
Knight/Rocket  Account Info

OK- First let me say I graduated High School with a 3.522, which when "rounded to the nearest letter grade" is an A a verage since 3.5 rounds to 4.
Kudos to whoever said they failed! Studying or other habits aside, it takes some serious guts to admit failing. At my high school, people would say they got far better grades than they did, so standard practice was to subtract two-tenths to get the real GPA.
BTW- yes that is my real GPA, down to the thousandth.
(Curses upon Physics Honors for lowering it!)

If you're not ashamed to have an F, it doesn't take any guts to admit failing.

Perhaps guts was not the right word. Let us say "forthrightness" to admit failure and not falsify the grade history.

I honestly hope that's a joke. Knowing the current state of the US's educational system, though, nothing's for sure anymore.

You got that right. I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, though that is just my first semsester. Drat! Stupid english got me down. A B is a 3.0 right? I am a freshmen in HS, so don't blame me.

No. A 'B' is 3.0-3.9 for average courses and 4.0-4.9 for honors courses. Or at least that's how it was at my high school.

I'm now in college, having to switch from a weighted 6-point scale to an unweighted 4-point scale. It seems so weird, after having a 5.36 GPA in high school, that having a 3.769 is good.

Ack! Stupid, spooty people with weighted GPA's ... I'm taking two AP classes, a college course, and two honors classes, and does *that* reflect in my GPA?! <bitch> <moan> <whimper> <whine>

I know what you mean. The honors courses aren't even weighted into the GPA at my school. I will, or atleast plan to, take 3 AP courses (Calculus, English, and Biology) next year but I think those are weighted :)

I hate not having honors classes put weight in the GPA score. I get A's and B's in those classes and I get about a 3.6 GPA whereas these little freak moron kids are in the stupid regular low classes and they get all A's so everyone thinks they're brilliant cuz they got a 4.0000210000300401250065264567005. Now that makes me mad. Here I am working my butt off for my honors classes (actually I don't. I usually do what is absolutely neccessary of me or less.) and you have these idiots who get all the credit for being smart when they are not. Ughhhh. Sigh. *Insert sound of extreme disgust and irritation with stupid people here*

Tell them stupid people what math class you're in and watch there face. If you're really that smart then their jaws will drop-gpa doesn't really matter.

Yeah, I'm a freshman, and in Algebra 2. That means that my JUNIOR year I will be taking AP Calc, and Senior-God knows what.

But, I'm not alone, there are 3 other freshmen in that class, and one 8th grader. No kidding, he just happened to escape government-funded iletaracy mills for the past 7 years, having been home-schooled and private schooled before.

And, I do know how to spell illiteracy, I just purposly misspelled it for effect.

We have AP Statistics at my school. It is well known to be a slacker course for people who don't want to take AP Calculus, and it is much less challenging. I took AP Calc last year though and am in Calc III right now (11th grade). I'll probably take Stat in college or something.

Our math system in school is messed up. For Pre-calc, you can take either 3 1-semester courses(Trig, Elementary Functions, and Analit. Geom.), and then possibly Discreet math, though it isn't required. Or, another option is just taking a year-long Pre-calc course, but not many people choose that option, because they are scared into the 3 classes by teachers who tell them that they aren't going to do well in Calc if they just take the year-long course.

Five honors courses? That's fewer than I took last year, but very good for schools without weighted GPA's.

And imho, weighted GPA isn't as good as you think it is, because the desire to have a good GPA makes some people take honors classes they aren't really qualified to be in.

I feel your pain child. I took 6 AP and Honors classes throughout HS, and the school doesn't weight them. But what do you expect? It was a California school.

The important thing is not if the course is weighted or not in College, but what courses you took and what grades you got.

Exactly my sentiment. I'm currently taking AP English, AP Chem, AP American History, and Calculus III (took BC last year) among other classes. I get good grades in my classes but not always quite perfect and people who do worse will probably end up with higher GPA's (mine is currently somewhere between 3.8 and 3.9 in a non-weighted system). I don't think it entirely matters, though. Colleges probably look at transcripts course by course instead of a vague number that has no real reflection on a student's abilities.

Yeah, public schools suck. And, of course, the only solution, if you ask a politician, is to use extensive standardized testing. Yep, I love it when I get to be a number and not a human being. Schools are so flexible and teachers are so understanding when everyone is boiled down to a few percentile scores.

Of course he is joking. Look at his/her other comments, and see that everything is acceptable, including grammer, puncuation, correct sentence length, etc.

P.S. I have around a 4.0 GPA, where that is the highest possible. No joking about that. And, I don't study.

My English class is taught by a 77 year old. He is quite funny, especially when, just today he discovered electric pencil sharpeners. He won't use his computer, and does everything on his typewriter.
I want to change his screensaver one time when it is on to " Hukd on fonicks wurkd fer mi " But he never has his computer on. The only time he has it on is when his aide is punching in grades. Like that does any good everyone knows you get A's in his class.
