Maybe you're the only one who knows of its existence.

Seriously though, what is it?

I wonder if not everyone recognizes the analogy format, because no one has discussed the correct answer in the comments.

I thought it was "TI-83 Plus is to TI-82 as [answer 1] is to [answer 2]", but none of the answers made sense that way, so I picked randomly. Maybe I just don't get analogies, or maybe I have the format wrong.

...well, to be clearer, the last one made sense technically, but it obviously isn't true (IMHO) so I counted that as not making sense.

Bah my 82 was much nicer than 83-plus, it wasn't burdened down with all those Flash-RAMs and whatnots...

Your format understanding is correct, but there is one clearly correct answer.

This is the most fun I've ever had in a survey :)

Ah, my problem was that I had no idea a serpent was a musical instrument. I thought that was just the random fun answer.

I said Assembly : Syntactic, since that's the one of the major things the 83 Plus has over the 82, the other being Flash.

Though, knowing MV, that could very well be wrong ;)

Okay, since no one has posted any discussion of the analogies, I will reveal the answers.

Analogies are about relationships. The given analogy of TI-83 Plus is to TI-82 is one of descendant to ancestor. The TI-82's successor was the TI-83 whose successor was the TI-83 Plus.

The first choice, ticalc.org : Nexus is a type relationship between two nouns, with ticalc.org serving as a nexus for the TI community.

The second choice, GraphiTI : Frippery is a attribute relationship between GraphiTI and an adjective describing GraphiTI(frippery: something showy, frivolous, or nonessential).

The third choice, Casio : Adversary describes the attribute of Casio to ticalc.org visitors.

The fourth choice, Assembly : Syntactic is also an attribute in that assembly language follows syntax rules.

The fifth choice, Sesquipedalian : TI-86 makes no sense at all :)

The sixth and correct choice, Euphonium : Serpent is a descendant and successor analogy. The musical instrument called a serpent was the predecessor of the ophicleide which in turn was the predecessor of the euphonium. Thus the euphonium is two generations descended from the serpent, just as the TI-83 Plus is two generations descended from the TI-82.

The seventh choice, Lackluster : Fantastic is a pair of antonyms, carefully listed so that it would be 83+ is lackluster and 82 is fantastic which makes no sense. Even if this choice was reversed, antonyms aren't the correct answer.

YAY!! I got it right!

Unfortunately, I answered that from "euphonium" sounds like Latinate for "good sound", and TI-83 Plus is good, and "serpent" is Biblically bad, so the TI-82 (assuming here that newer is inherently better).

I just picked it because I like euphoniums.

yes you do. It is on your computer. TICalc.org put it there when you logged in. Unfortunately, it's software, not candy.

This is great, but how long has it been going on? It's like new polls are frozen.
