I did a price check on most of the major components in the TI-84 once. The total came out to about $30. Throw in production and labor and its up to what? $40? So the calcs are definitely a rip off.

They are worth the price for geeks like me who get an incredible amount of use from them, but they cost way to much for someone who just needs one for high school algebra.

My friend was looking for a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, and he found it was $174! I bought mine for a reasonable $118 (but my 84 is going crazy). I think inflation is taking the 84s

Price of a TI-85 in 1992...

Was ~$100. The TI-86 is just a little bit more than that today (15 years later). TI has the monopoly (granted, their products are in general better), so it woul dbe nice for someone to come in with a product programmed as well, if not better, and blow TI's price out of the water.

meh, they're a little too high, but figuring that it can do everything on this site and more, I'd say it's worth the money
