Yeah I wouldn't want to mess around in there. I would probably break the calc.

You could always try getting some cheap on eBay.

I got my 83+ for ~$50, and missed an auction where one went unsold with a starting price of $8. I still wince when I think of that...

I agree. I could probably write a program for my computer to manipulate a robot arm to change the hardware in my calc, but I couldn't change the hardware myself. I don't do anything with hardware unless it's to input data into software, or get data from software.

when you're soldering on new parts, don't get the solder in the wrong spot, that sucks

Both, actually. I've modded about 5 of my calculators with my color screen modification, fixed the link port on two others of mine, and added a headphone jack to one. I did manage to break the screen on a TI-83+ Blue edition though. Oh, and I've given a couple of them custom case and paintjobs.

Yes, it has a color screen, but what can you do with it?
If you want anything to use it, you have to write it yourself, meaning you have to be a guru like Kerm. In the long run, it's not as useful as you might think.

Anykey is right. It's a pain to write stuff to support it. On top of that, the terrible latency of the LCD degrades color quality significantly.

You do not even need a color screen. See the link on my home page (link above) regarding color on the TI-86 for a picture. I got color on a stock TI-86 with ROM 1.4, but it involves stressing the LCD in a manner similar to poking it with your finger, so it could potentially cause damage. I never had it get damaged, but then again, I have also dropped a monitor & had it break open (just the plastic case, not the glass, of course) & still work. :)

That can't be controlled down to individual pixels though, can it?

I'm guessing not, if it involves pushing on the LCD. ;-)

So, did you just take different thicknesses of cardboard and wedge them between the LCD glass and plastic?
