I borrow my friends calcs for 4 reasons:

~I forgot mine next to the computer
~I want to play games on their calc (probably cuz the 1st)
~I want to program on their calc (because the 1st)
~I want to screw over their calc (hey, its fun :`D)

I am normally devoted to my calc only...
Though sometimes I need a backup-calc, since xLib can get nasty if u play around with it in exotic ways XD

I have 3 calculators and 4 computers, so if I forget a calculator next to a computer I always have the other 2 in my backpack.

I wonder what other would be. You either borrow it or you don't.

I guess if you don't borrow a calculator, but only because no one else has a calc, or they won't share their calc, that might count as 'other'

You borrow people's calcs, but not for any of the reasons listed above, and not for a combination of the reasons listed above.

Maybe one reason could be to show off to other calculator afficionados who don't have an 89. Another could be just to look at it or feel it. They could also draw the calculator. What other reasons?

Um, to find out what the person who owns the calc has been doing for the past 30 entries, to show someone how to do something on their calc, to learn how to do something on a different model, because someone else is borrowing yours at that moment....

With reguards to the people speaking of playing pranks: I rather enjoy giving people useful programs they will benefit from.

I can't count how many chemistry/math/french help programs I've handed out to people around class. We're not bad people, we just like to have fun every once in a while. People also ask for prank programs to be made for their own uses every once in a while...

I give useful programs to anyone who would use them, know what to do with them, and/sometimes or perhaps even look in the source code and learn to write in ti basic from them (that's how I learned).
Of course, if they don't meet any of the above qualifications and they're not on the math team, then their calculators are fair game for being crashed. I don't write that many viruses; usually I send people Mirage os, password protect it, block the memory menu from access, and fill up all of their archival memory and all of their RAM. >:)

I didn't realize how mean people actually are to other peoples calculators, I am the only person in my school who writes malware for the calc, and even then it is not that mean. All I do is make put the calc into endless loops that can only be exited by typing DIAMOND + 3 (they always have to take out the batteries because no one knows that command).

I've only done real damage to one person's calc (that was with mirage-it's the only time I actually didn't tell victim the password that I used); otherwise I do "harmless damage." That one case was special, because he'd tried to mess up my calc.
I don't write assembly anyway, so there's not much I could do, even if I wanted to.

heh heh, wouldn't it be great to install Krolypto and then encrypt all their programs and data and maybe password-protect on startup...

I only use my calculators because I have a ti-89, ti-89t, and a ti-82. I loan the ti-89 to my friend all the time because he sucks at symbolic manipulation, and he only has a ti-83+SE. The only reason I use someone else's calculator is either that I am giving them something use full, or they are an obnoxious freshman and I am giving them something malicious :) I really like giving freshman malicious programs in C because ON does not work :)

I think it would be interesting to make a TSR hook that leeked a small amount of mem every time the calc was turned on. that way some random amount of time later they run out of mem.

More than running out of memory...it might crash the calc at a certain point after enough memory leaks! *evil grin* That would be fun to see.

I don't think the calc will actualy crash, jsut stuff won't work right or at all.

It depends...the OS might have a bug that's triggered by extremely low memory (I wouldn't be surprised, it would be easy to overlook).

I have used Command Plus's low mem simulaton and the var link dosn't display the same and neither do the Dialog messages (dialogs that just show a string) but I don't remember anything crashing
