A little bit of a funny story to this survey...I was trying to come up with an idea (all by myself!), and somehow got sidetracked and started browsing IMDB. Somehow, I remembered about TIMM (see link) and wondered how many people use it (or other video->calculator compatible video software) to watch videos on their calculator.

To be honest, until right now, I never heard of it.

Right, but that's the point: being able to watch something animated on your calculator. I don't imagine anyone would be able to watch a full-length movie on their calculator (At least at this point in time).

I wouldn't doubt it. Remember the video MV made showing the connection of a USB memory stick into a TI-84+? (I think it was a TI-84+ anyway, if my memory serves me...) He was able to play maybe a minute-long clip of The Matrix from a file on that memory stick. Now, black and white animations are not very large (especially with a resolution of 96x64), so it certainly seems possible to watch a full video on your calculator with the use of an external drive.

Think about it. A CD can hold a fairly good quality full-length movie, and that's 700 MB. Memory sticks nowadays hold up to 2 gigs. You could fit quite a few movies on there if you wanted... but keep in mind that this would be extremely boring as well as pointless because you wouldn't have sound, and the dithering would make the image look so ugly that it wouldn't hold your attention for longer than five minutes max.

Regardless, the possibility remains.

Then again, if you could somehow combine Mr. Montelongo's audio algorithms with this idea, you could get your sound.

But I'd have to say it would be much easier to buy a portable DVD player or a PSP if you want to watch movies that bad. :)

the only downfall to a portable dvd or psp is...you can't use them in class. And i would definetly be using my calc movies in class

Teachers get suspicious when you have headphones or speakers hooked up to your calc. I can't figure out why...

I sort of got in trouble for that in art class once. :) The official reason was that we were not allowed to wear headphones in art class. I just went back to doing math & playing Tetris, of course (since we were not doing anything on that particular day).

Yeah, even with 4-level grayscale, it would have to be heavily edited just so you could see what's going on.

with an 84+SE and compression you can fit a fair length clip on there.

I can't get TIMM to work correctly with my 89 Titanium. My 83 and 85 are completly out of the question of videos. "Let me see the first part again," "No (insert a friends name here), that was the video," "What, not even a second long and without sound," "Yeah, it bites, but hey, what can I do with 27KB?"

Well, in manner of speaking i suppose...

If you set framerate to 10-15 and dither rather than greyscale as well as small viewable area, you can get an entire commercial in! (the funny parts anyway)

I've written few-second animations (mostly because I'm bored during class) but I've never watched anything real.

Well, I voted No. Have I ever before? Yes. But not recently nor do I anymore. Like stated above, you normally can't fit an entire video anyway and I am pretty sure it doesn't include sound (but don't quote me on that).

In my terms of watching a vide, no, all I have is an 89T and 83+

Yes, it's actually fairly good

If you take your pictures in the right lighting conditions, then the pictures look extremely realistic. Most cartoons will look great in Rigview. If you haven't downloaded it yet, then do it today.
