What are these continents you speak of? I see no boundaries from orbit...

Assuming there is no cloud cover you should be able to see them. :)

I've also heard it's rather cold; your calc might freeze solid! (that would not be good) :-)

It wouldn't slow down - haven't you ever heard of superconductivity?

Well, I think that -200 degrees does not cause conventional materials to superconduct...

True, no superconductivity, but it does decrease resistance.

If the temperature gets below about 40 Fahrenheit my TI-86's screen runs more slowly (it slowly morphs from one thing to another like a slow-phosphor CRT would). I seriously doubt the LCD freezing solid could be good for it, & the batteries also probably do not like being frozen, but yes, I doubt the circuits would mind.

I'm in Wisconsin now, so I can try that!

On a side note, I wish I had a thermometer. It's supposed to be 42°F here, but I'm in my dorm room with the window open.

Me too! I'm in Massachusetts, in a dorm room, with the window open, wearing shorts, as always. It is probably <0 degrees celsius outside. For some reason my radiator gives off way too much heat. If my window is closed, my room gets to be noticably hotter than the hall. I like the fresh air, but the wasted energy makes me sad.

ahh yeah. :( i meant the LCD in my original post, not the processing speed (i have no clue how temperature affects that, i only paid enough attention in AP chem to score well on the test, nothing more)... i always left my stuff in my car during highschool, so in winter when i'd take in to the library to work on homework before class in the morning, i could work almost as fast but... the screen's contrast was low and loading screens and menus was terribly slow. and it lasted all day... my 89 didn't warm up at all unless i kept it in my pocket, which was awkward because it was so cold...

That would be in the realm of physics, not chemistry.

well then neither my hs pssc physics nor my physics I class have so much as touched the subject, and therefor i still don't know jack about superconductivity, regardless of its realm.

I had my 89 in my backpack the other year, standing outside for the bus in -5 degree weather (Fahrenheit). After a few minutes I took it out and noticed that one corner of the screen was black (while it was off, and not black in distinctive pixels, kinda overflown). I quickly turned it on and rubbed the screen abit and it went back to normal. It was rather wierd though, I'm not quite sure why it would do that...

Why were you in Antarctica? I've never known anybody thats even known anybody whos been to Antartica. Although they say that everybody knows everybody through six people or less. Therefore, I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows George Bush.

Not just you heard - it's been proven.

Now if we only knew the four people between Bush and bin Laden.
But I think we can apply Heisenberg to that.

Or...a fusion reactor of course! I happpen to be in possession of a fully-functioning prototype reactor, with constant power output of 1.2 MW....well, until the plasma got away from the magnetic fields for a split second and burned a rather large hole through one the walls...<sigh>
