Jon/Morgan, there is no choice for those who don't get dreams. That choice would suite me nicely, but oh well. Very creative Morgan!

Yes, both. Multiple times. Have I seen this poll before? Maybe... anyway, it's a strange, but interesting poll. I wonder if this will get people to tell some weird stories...

I had a dream that I was a calculator (an 89 of course) and that when someone tried to program me in BASIC I exploded. Very strange. Prophetic maybe?

Yeah, the moral of the story is to never program in BASIC. ;) *gets flamed by the BASIC lovers*

Well, BASIC is only as stable as the interpreter that runs it, and the interpreter is normally written either in ASM or C for TI calculators.

Only if the ASM programmer is a n00b... j/k

Nah, but that's what debugging, testing, etc. is for. Besides, I've crashed BASIC programs before. I don't know HOW, but I've done it. Multiple times, too.

And I prefer speed over possible instability.

How did you crash BASIC programs? With an error message or by actually crashing the calc (necessitating a reset)?

The latter--resetting the calc. I've done it on my TI-82 and my TI-89. Resetting the TI-89 in BASIC isn't that hard (there is a known bug in an earlier operating system), but I have no idea how I managed to crash the TI-82 in BASIC. I remember I was writing some quadratic formula solver (n00b program :P), and in the middle of the program, it just reset. I tried to type all of the code back up as it was before, but I couldn't duplicate the error.

I haven't had my TI-89 crash from a BASIC program [yet--let's hope it doesn't happen in the middle of a huge project :) ]. The worst I've gotten so far was an "Internal Error" message, but it didn't crash. (It seemed to have trouble with "Cycle" inside a Try:Else:EndTry block, or something like that.)

One time my TI-82 crashed somehow when I was drawing something on the graph screen and tried to go back to the Home Screen (it just locked up) many years ago. I've been able to crash the 85 and maybe the 86 on purpose using known ROM bugs.

Yeah, I think those work on the 86. I was also talking about the "enter a space in the Solver" bug that affects the TI-85. IIRC, it doesn't work on the TI-86.

About 7-8 years ago I dreamed I had a calculator that had an extra button that made it morph into a newer model... of course pressing the button too many times made the button dissappear, but it was interesting seeing the scientific calc I had at the time turn into a simulacrum of a graphing calc (which I only new about because a friend at school was borrowing that of his older brother for class one day... 6th grade)

sometimes, I dream that I am asleep and cannot wake up; it's aweful, I'm stuck sitting in a room for like 7 hours (very real), until suddenly I wake up with a big gasp for air and almost crying...you better believe I remember those; it's scary!

Oh, and many times I stayed up programming, and dream about numbers and programs and stuff, though I cant make any sense of anything; and when the alarm goes off, my mind is still half there, and I am thinking all kinds of nonsense numbers and math witht the time until I decide that I cannot get up yet or my program will crash...whatever; but all the time I reason with nonsense that I was dreaming when my alarm goes off and then dont get up for some made up reason that makes no sense

Sometimes I've had dreams about dreaming and I would think I had woken up a few times, but it would still be a dream. It has never lasted longer than maybe 30 mintues, though. Occasionally, I have woken up from a dream and I would be paralyzed for a few moments before I could move again, but it would only last about a minute. I think it's that mechanism that the body uses to keep you from moving around physically while you're dreaming.

I have often woken up with a lot of nonsense floating around in my head, though, like you mentioned, or sometimes thinking that I had to do something that doesn't make sense in order to get up. It's like my memory is corrupted and I try to reason things that don't make sense until I wake up more completely and remember to "reset" myself. :)

It's strange because when you finally wake up for real you know you're awake, but then again when you think you wake up and you're dreaming you "know" you're awake, but when you wake up for real you *know* you're awake, but... well, never mind, this doesn't even make sense. :)

That happens to me too...I'll be thinking about some math problem and it'll become infinitely more complex in my dream and I'll be REALLY confused and not able to figure it out...or I'll have a dream about going through endless lines of code that I barely understand, trying to find some very major but hard-to-catch bug...nothing seems logical...and again I get really confused and frustrated, until I wake up and feel so glad that I have VTI... :-)

Yeah! I get that too. If I'm working on a difficult math problem on long car trips and fall asleep soon afterwards, I usually end up dreaming about a math problem that I can't solve. And when I finally wake up, I realize that the problem from my dream is completely nonsense.

I also had this dream once that I figured out a way to display HTML on your calculator. Then, I thought, "So THAT'S how you get color on your calculator!" <FONT COLOR="red">These pixels are now red!</FONT> My dreams are messed up... (Or maybe I was dreaming about the v400 ;-))

i have had some strange dreams after programming where i am sitting looking at a screen, and it sais: wake up?
then it has 2 buttons:yes,no
if i pick no, the screen goes blank and a couple minutes later happens again, then i picked yes, and i woke up!!
it was really weird...
and for some reason none of my dreams are in first person, so i know its really a dream, i think. sometimes. :$

Aw... dude.. I hate when that happens... You wake up right at the best part of the dream, fall back asleep, and never even think about what you just dreamed before.

...But then again, if you forgot you dreamed a dream, could you dream that same dream again and think you have never dreamed the dream but have really already dreamed the dream. Then you get in a fight with your inner self because he knows that you dreamed the dream before, but your stubborn self knows you haven't, so you try to dream the dream again and never do until you have forgot about the first time you dreamed the dream... which would actually be the second time. Then you get into a whole huge fight with you, yourself, and your inner self...

Freaky what can happen when you dont remember things...

I have the opposite problem. I often have dreams that I could have sworn I've had before, but when I think about it, I'm not really sure, and it doesn't seem like I've had them before.

Apparently, dreams can include memories of things that happened in real life in the past that didn't really (including dreaming the same dream before), and that makes things really confusing.
