Many thanks to 'W Hibdon' for the survey. I personally find it very hard to crash my TI-86.

*not including the amount of time I've crashed my 83+ using Omnicalcs ASM real( thingo or my HEX ASM on the calc* The odd ASM program will crash my calc about once a year. I rarely download games for it or ASM programs. I would like for it to be able to handle "expand(equation)" and "lim()" but yeah.

Although I whole-heartedly support this quote, it has been proven incorrect...random discharges of a magnetic field can change bits in the middle of a calculation, therefore making the calculation innacurate.

But, isn't it some person's mistake to let anything that would produce an electric field be stored next to a computer?

No duh. It's bloatware.

Exemple: Microsoft Office costs hundreds of dollars, and takes almost 800 MEGS on my computer. I can download OpenOffice for free, and it takes a fraction of the space, plus it doesn't bog my coumputer down as much, either.

And AbiWord is another Office replacement that is free, and actually starts FASTER than MSOffice (unline OOo). It also has very similar functionality and interface to MSOffice.

Two things... I've found that OOo opens a lot slower than Abiword or MSOffice on my computer, and that OOo has a pretty different default interface than MSOffice and Abiword (the first is probably becase OOo is a suite containing powerpoint, excel, word, and the other one replacements). Abiword is the first part of a suite that is under developement now. And also, about "lets hope one day ms is gone for good." While I dislike a lot of things about Micro$oft, they do make some very good products, often times before anyone else does. Take for example Internet Explorer. While now it's a security hazard, back when non-text-mode browsers were new, IE was a significant improvement over Mosaic and early versions of Netscape. They make some good games, also. But, they also have a lot of bad points, and can kind of be lazy on their code because of evolving hardware and domination of the market. Apple has also done some things better/before anyone else, such as GUIs and the iPod.

I know this is true, because no one is perfect, neither is microsoft, or we would not have the bugs in XP to begin with.
Also, hardware in the computer ages and stuff wears down over time, also causing issues with how your computer operates. So if you had your computer for at least 4 years, and things start happening, it could be that just that something is worn down in your computer.

I hardly ever use a calculator anymore, so my vote was once or twice a month, if that...it used to be nearly every day (with all the ASM that I downloaded) but now it is significantly lower. To be honest, I probably run out of batteries more often then I crash my calc.

Hmm... mine crashes about once a year. The TI-89, that is. I think that's pretty good.

Well, considering I use it almost exclusively to do math, I guess it's not too surprising that it almost never crashes. It's only crashes when I try a program I think might be useful, but turns out to be unstable. None of the programs I use on a regular basis have ever crashed my calculator; if any of them did, I would stop using it immediately.

I've written a not-too-good calculator game that's a turn based strategy game. It seems that whenever I save a game in progress to file, (not often because the game sucks and I rarely want to play it) I end up crashing it within the next day or so before I can get back together with whoever to finish the game. *Poof* No more game file. Other than that, I have occasional crashes, but rarely more than one in a month.

yeah... why do games become unstable after, like, three weeks of use? it's working fine, the BOOM! your ram's gone. IT'S ANNOYING, but i guess that you are stupid enough not to save the games you aren't using in your archive, then unarchive when you want to use it, then re-archive it. (That's why i like mirage... it unarchs the prog and archs it automatically, so your games are virtually delete-free.

happens all the time when i try to run BASIC progs on MirageOS (yes, the new one!). and i still won't learn.

it seems that to me basic progs never crash on my 84+se in mirage. people complain all the time about them, but i dont seem to have that problem. yay!

BTW, I just archive and hide all of my games, so if a teacher looks at my calc it seems to be game-free. Plus, it seems to be keeping all of the annoying n00bs away.

Really? That's surprising. What do you do to make it crash? Run buggy programs? Also, I archive everything in those unfortunate times when there is actually a crash, so I guess it wouldn't matter if it did... but no, it doesn't happen very often at all.

Of course, I archive everything so I do not lose any data, but it's annoying to have the Apps load again.

My V200 that I bought in April this year has yet to crash. It has, however, gone through several sets of batteries. I guess using it a couple hours a day to do physics, statics, and graph 3D stuff and solve multivariable calculus takes a bunch of juice.

However, my old TI-89 would crash on average, every other week. It would actually crash about every other month, but when it crashed, it would do so several times in a day. It finally bit the dust when a battery exploded in the back of it when I was doing Calc II. That pretty well toasted it...

Same here. I thought I lost everything yesterday, when the batteries spontaneously died during a game of Queue, but it's all still there. My 89 never crashes, even though I play a lot of ASM games, mess around with 3D graphing, and run a few TSRs.

Actually, if you look at the source, it is quite lame. He used a WYSIWYG program, and as a result, his source is bloated. People should seriously learn HTML. There's nothing to it. All of my pages are 100% notepad. See Link

Not really... with the ads, and the ugly, harsh, background that reduces legibility, I'd prefer plaintext.

I use notepad...you actually have more control over what you can do, provided you know how to write it.

I use a text-mode editor also. WYSIWYG editors just plain suck, and their code can be really bad.

I totally agree with using notepad. But why write html while XHMTL exists? And if everyone used CSS the web would even be a better place.

The problem XHTML is that older browsers can't parse the code. CSS has definently made the web a better place. Check out W's site for a good example.

I use CSS, but I do not use XHTML because it's not completely supported by any browser, and I prefer server-side solutions such as PHP.

I agree. FrontPage just generates 5x the amount of code you really need, sticks an advertisement for Microsoft in a comment near the beginning of the page source, and shows any visitors that you don't know anything about HTML.

If you don't know ANY HTML and you have to make a site within a few days, then go with dreamweaver. Even though it is a WYSIWYG editor, it's code is much better than frontpage.

Same here. When it crashes, it's almost always the result of something stupid I've done with an assembly prog or a hex editor. :-)

Or when I'm bored and start sending random values to the ports to see what happens...

I always liked seeing how uch I could messup VTI when I was started learning. Just to see what the screen would do and all. :-) It was kind of fun!
