I think that ticalc.org staff should talk anything other than calculators, computers, electronics, maths and so on so that they can get a propper break like go out with their friends.

Someone who maintains a site as big as this has no time for friends.

You got that right.

Sitting in front of a computer typing HTML code into NotePad for 5 hours beats hanging out with friends any day! :-)

Yeah, our school played at Washington DC for the dedication ceremony, and I still think band is stupid. Plus, our director is a little beyond mildly crazy. All my friends are big band freaks, but they all still know i'm very anti-band. I was forced to take it for a while...yeah, that didn't work out well.

I feel the exact same way. "Band!? You've got to be kidding me!" But every time I make a comment like that, all my friends more or less "shun" me, so I've learned not to do that. Over 90% of my friends are obsessive band freaks. It's really disturbing... but yet, they complain when I talk about math. :(

A friend of mine who is in band carries his drum sticks EVERYWHERE. Like, I mean, he'll be drumming on the back of the chair in front of him in CHURCH. That's how obsessed he is. It's really annoying.

You should see my school, so many people have ADD/ADHD that it isn't even funny. So many of them spend half their time drumming on desks with hands, pens or pencils.
Might I also add that it's Stonerville, USA.

I defintely wouldn't want to be in a *school* band, but a heavy metal garage band with a couple friends would be great...

Wow. I just started a small flamewar with the word 'band' (gasp! the b-word!). I have to wake up at 5:30 EVERY morning for band, not to mention the fact that my band directors are insane!!

Yeah, been there, done that. Since this is my second year in college, most of my time gets devoted to studying (calculus III, physics, statics, organic I). I spend most of the rest of what little time is left exercising, sleeping, eating, and using the computer. I do hang out with friends, but usually to study. We're engineers for crying out loud- what did you expect? Keg parties?

I'd prefer an actual programming language to HTML, but sure, whatever works. :) I'm really anti-social, I'd go for programming over hanging out, any day. Too bad I don't know any girls that enjoy programming. My idea of a date: "Hey baby, why don't you come over to my house, get on the other computer, and we can play a multiplayer game over my LAN... then we can program something *wink*" Hmm... maybe THAT'S why it's so hard to get a girlfriend... ;-)

Maybe TI could take advantage of this and gear their advertising to something more along the lines of this:

Guy: Man, I wish I could get that girl over there to look at me
Other Guy: Just watch THIS! *whips out his new TI-84+SE with a blue faceplate*
*girls comes over and sits beside him, then pulls out hers (with a pink faceplate)*
First guy: Whoa, I need to get one of those!

Haha! Wow, I'm weird ;-)

HAHAHA! 120d//!!!
Good one!

How about this:
Guy: Hey (name of girl), how do you like my new HP calc? I bought it last weekend!
Girl: AAAAHHHHH!!!! IT's THE DREADED RPN MODE!!!! *she faints*
2nd guy: It's ok. I've got the brand new 84+SE right here, all algebraically done, with your favorite, a pink faceplate!
*girl recovers, and she and 2nd guy leave, hand in calculator in hand*

OK, I'm a bit biased about the HP calcs... :-)

The people here aren't "pathetic." Rather, they are (generally) "nerds" or in some cases "geeks." Some would argue that "nerdy" and "pathetic" are synonyms...
