is the old server just sitting around in a closet or something?

Wait, could the server not be still used? I mean, it still has the storage value.

wouldnt it just be easier to take the storage out and install it onto the new server? or are you just incorrectly referring to memory which I doubt ticalc needs anyway

Well, if there is no more room in the current server case, then they could not just take the storage out. Still though, what is to stop them?

Looking at the server I would say no one will be poking around inside - that will be under warranty, therefore poking will void it, and it will be insured - if the hardware is altered from what the insurers believe it is then that too will be void.

I could be wrong but if I am then the owners need to get a better idea of 'owning expensive equipment'

Heh. So, my idea of using it next to it is still valid.

Yeh, but it uses electricity, will cost to network the two together (all though probably not much) and will just leave more stuff to go wrong.

"Thers an old server?"
Sounds somewhat like a scandanavian word, but I couldn't find anything on google other than spelling errors for "thers." Also, "eeh"? I've only seen it used with 1 'e'.

Anyways, if it still works, I would take it. It would be nice to be able to run a (nearly) free website without all the annoying ads and spam email that most hosts send. But not for more than $5.

Unfortunately, I think "server" means just the hardware, not the broadband connection service that you'd need to put up your own pages. :-(

yeah... i could probably run it (and i am btw, check the nonfunctional link that merely points to an apache-hosted file on my local network) easier on my comp. Ive got cable. Worthlessly asymmetrical, but better than 28.8, right?

Ehm, that link points to http://192.168.2.9/main/html/index.php. Do you know that any 192.168.x.x address is accessable only to people on your network?

I could give you a subdomain for free, or a domain for $6. You would be able to use as much of the 500 mB that is free.

E-mail me:

if you are interested.

500 millibytes? That's kind of cheap, don't you think? How much could you really store in 4 bits?

It looks like the second 'e' in 'eeh' is lost. Perhaps we should help it find its way back to 'thers'.

You guys really shouldn't sell the old one, think of all the great times you had with it :)

Seriously, I still have my first computer (a Commodore 64/128) and I keep it for the same reason you should keep the ticalc server.

And what would that reason be? It's to heavy to lift and it isn't really in the way anyway? ;)
