Unit Operations Released
Posted by Michael on 4 October 2003, 05:14 GMT

Benjamin Moody has released a flash application for the TI-83 Plus called Unit Operations. This application integrates with the operating system to provide seamless unit conversions. As calculations are performed, units are maintained, and can be converted. The app features 140 units, which should cover nearly every possible practical usage.

I expect this to be very useful... like the TI-89 built-in units.

Hey, I thought TIcalc was down on the 4th! And today! How odd...

Yeah... the TI-89 already has built in units ;-) Now if we were only allowed to use graphing calculators in chemistry... GRR...

why can't you use calculators in chemistry? it may get a little difficult doing everything by hand...

Hehe, cool. Something for the other people in physics to be jealous of.

If I ever download it and stuff, that is... I have an 89 anyway. Oh well.

this is s00 c00l-I think ill dl it and see if it worth the 16k/32k size (didn't check yet)
Seems interesting-Does it have HEX-BIN-DEC-OCT, english-metric, quarts to cups etc.

It has more units than any sane person would need. Numbers are formatted using FormBase, so we're stuck with decimal. I don't expect many people to want to use other bases in conjunction with measurements, but I could be wrong.

Yeah...this is the coolest and most useful app for school to ever appear probably...the only downside is now i can't use symbolic & omniclac at the same time!! WAAH! |-)

How long do you think it'll take to fix the parser hook problem?

Well i was saying that maybe some asm programmer would like hex-dec-bin conversion done easy. also casios ARE crap but the only feature i found to be usful on mine(on-graphing) was you could put it in a conversoin mode were say you typed something in hex you push a button it dispalyed the decimal binary or octal equivalent

I haven't heard of this one.
Sounds bad. What sort of program are you trying to run?

Anything. i first noticed it when I ran my cleanup program, but then I tried other programs, ad they worked until it tried to quit the program.

I guess your cleanup prog has a garbage collect, manual garbage collect is actually quite stupid, as flash rom has only a certain amount of writes before it dies, and garbage collect only rearanges flash, not ram. I wish people would realize that id does not make the calc run any faster.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Unit Operations Released

However, garbage collect is helpful for people who send and receive things a lot, since it often garbage collects, and periodic garbage collecting greatly speeds up the link time, which is very useful for exchanging inbetween classes. Also, I made a program with only the code :Stop and that made it freeze up and clear the ram.

I have also had problems with BASIC programs (Input , in my case) with Unit Conversions installed. Just uninstall the app, do what you want, and reinstall it.
