Author Statistics with TIreport
Posted by Michael on 21 August 2003, 03:58 GMT

Joris Gillis has released a nifty program called TIreport. This program will generate personalized statistics for your ticalc.org files. You can view a private ranking for each file with a color indicator, sort by several different fields, et cetera. Note that this program downloads a copy of the information page for each file you own, so please don't generate the statistics excessively (It does save the outputted report for future viewing).

I really do love this program. It takes a bit of work to get going if you're new at Perl, but since I have some experience with XChat, it was easy. Great work, Joris!

I am still confused on what this program really does. Not to mention, why do I need to know perl to use it? Please enlighten me, anyoue.

If you look at the screenshot, it'll show you what it does. It essentially gives you a very detailed look at your author stats. You don't need to know the Perl language, but since it is a Perl script, you need to know how to set Perl up and install modules.

Any suggestions are still welcome.

If you don't like to view the report in Internet Explorer 6.0 , check out the edition that supports any browser (URL above)

Running my server doesn't cost me anything... I already have the broadband, and I don't have to pay the power bill. Thus, free.

Heck the only reason I don't have an IM client is that I can't type fast enough.

OMG... how fast do you type!?

I usually average around 80 words per minute, but I can get up to ~120, I think. Most commonly when I'm programming.

120? Last I clocked myself, I could only get around 40!

120 is basically super speed. I'm not jokeing either since my uncle types at ~85, and that is considered really fast.

Well, I can't go at 120 for a while. The faster I go, the more errors I make... usually. Every now and then I get a burst of speed when I'm typing, but then I usually slow back down. I've also noticed that when I'm mad, I tend to type faster and bang on the keys harder.
But really... I couldn't do 120 for a minute, or probably even 30 seconds. Well, at least I don't think I could. I'd start making a lot of mistakes. I think I should try that. In QBASIC class, I was fooling around once and made a "words per minute" program tester, that's how I got the numbers. It was actually a very simple program to write.

Yeah... I remember that feeling when I got cable three months ago. The only problem is that it makes you impatient.

Well, yeah. The first day when I got it, I said "Now I'm going to be spoiled... when I go to a friend's house and use their 56k [most of my friends have cable modem, anyway], then I will probably get mad when I have to wait three seconds for the page to load."
LOL, so true. But I really love this. I'm finally content now. I won't need to bug my parents again for a looooooong time.

Would you like to argue that point? Since you don't have a real name or account here, you really can't expect me to take you seriously, anyway.

Wonder if mine will... since I'm new to all of this, I don't quite know everything...
But would buying our own modem (instead of renting theirs) affect that decision to let us host our own server and whatever? It's about time I got back to maintaining a website.
