July 2003 Newsletter Released
Posted by Joey on 2 July 2003, 05:46 GMT

The July 2003 issue of the ticalc.org newsletter was sent out yesterday. Anyone subscribed to the plain text or HTML lists should have received it by now. Once again, I managed to mess up the HTML encoding, but I fixed the error and sent it again. (Sorry!) The 83+, 89 and 92+ versions of the newsletter have been updated. The July newsletter is also available on our Newsletter page.

The comments below are written by ticalc.org visitors. Their views are not necessarily those of ticalc.org, and ticalc.org takes no responsibility for their content.

i've discovered through a series of trial and error that i am able to parse html documents faster the second time around ;)

Additionally, I would suggest a 'summary' of the month... ie were there any significant developments or featured programs... etc...

I like the month summary thing... just kinda revisit what's happened. The section I was going to add, but I've put off 'til next month, is Editor's Picks, in which I could point out neat programs that have not been Featured.

I like that idea, too.

By the way, a great game, programmed by yours truly, ImpQuest I: An Unexpected Visitor, version 0.87 has come out :)

And I'm not kidding. It's a great game.

Thanks for the mention of my graduation!

I think some people on this site should actually take the time to realize that this is where they can get their voice heard by writing a piece such as lord_nitrose did in the May 2003 newsletter. You are greatly encouraged send in anything you wish that can be reviewed for approval in the newsletter.

Some ideas:
1) why you think your calculator is the best! z80 vs. 68k
2) what you think of ti
3) are Joey and I doing a good job :)
4) calculators and national testing
5) basic vs. assembly
6) anything you have an opinion on
7) well almost anything
8) just within reason :)

Just curious....For those of you who graduated this year from high school....do you plan on visiting ticalc.org as much as you did in high school. Weather you are going off to college or not?

And yes, I do visit ticalc.org just as often as I did in high school, although I don't always have as much time to read through and post stuff anymore.

going into my third year of college... woo!

I am definetely interested in writing the ASM programming database proposed in the newsletter, I already have some webspace that supports mySQL and PHP!

In addition to the database, how do people like the idea of have a messageboard dedicated to helping programmers learn or debug their programs, TICT kind of already has one, but it's nice to have everything in one place.

If no one else has started, I think I could finish the site by the end of the summer. It would be sooner if I wasn't on a team to rewrite my High School's website.

By the way, I have lots of experience in writing dynamic webpages that support SQL databases- using both PHP and ASP, but I only run on Linux servers, so I rarely use ASP nowadays.

See my post below; I can do it too, and have a message board, maybe even integrate the two (i.e., make it so you can easily put a link to the ROM call in a post, or something).

I could have a working one done in a couple of weeks if I'm lucky.

I also work on my school's web site, but we don't do anything over the summer.

Theres a few guys on the efnet channel #tcpa taking this pretty seriously. Rather than have several of these sites pop up by different people, I think everyone should work together on this thing. A good place to start would be stopping by #tpca . if it gets noisey enough, maybe we'll spread out to another channel.

As for message boards, no one is going help programmers all that much. Look at the attitude on A83. no one will want to debug someone else's code or walk newbie number 1001 through the something that could be solved with a quick web search. if you mean just a quick question like "whats the flag that does... " then yeah it'll get answered. For these kinds of questions, and general discussions the www.detachedsolutions.com discussion boards seem to do the job.

Do that!!!!

Someone tried to do that, and they failed, but only because they didn't advertise enough.

If you are looking for mods/admin, e-mail me (fanothaft714@hotmail.com). I have plenty of experience as a mod/admin.

1337 == lEET == 'lite == elite

I'm not sure if 1337 is the number of the "cracker" hacker, or the guys who write crappy code in their basement.

The bumper sticker I have says "31337 H4X0R", and 31337 is my preferred form. However, 1337 is acceptable (see 1337krew.org, for instance) and the joke isn't funny otherwise. :-)

Yes, you all are elite, and I am wearing a thong and ate used condoms for dinner last night. Too bad for you that I'm not doing/have not done any of that stuff...

Hey, all it says is that "Don't use language you wouldn't hear on U.S. network television." I've heard all of those words on U.S. network television. No, I do not hear nonexistant voices...

It would have been better if you asked what types of drugs I'm on.

I have actually heard all of those words used on national TV, just not like that. Its stuff like "HIV is down due to use of condoms" and stuff like that...

Proud of your drug habits are you?

Reminds me of one idiot in Highschool who would stumble around pretending to be high. My friends would sell him weed that was 50% Oregano. The next day this kid would come to school and thank them for giving him such a great deal for such great weed.
