TI Pinball 0.11 for all 68k calcs!
Posted by Morgan on 21 June 2003, 09:18 GMT
Jude Nelson has released TI Pinball 0.11, the first assembly Pinball game for 68k calcs. Jude has been producing a number of notable programs including Spazian 0.25, which came out last month for all 68k calcs. This latest game includes all features imaginable. They are, "...four-level grayscale, six modes of gravity, multiple tables, and pretty much everything a computerized pinball machine should support." As well as being more of an original game, and showing the potential of 68k calcs, this type of program makes my job worth doing.

I have played the game and think it is fun, but one suggestion would be to make the flippers be able to hold the ball in place, I personally like the feeling of making a controlled shot by holding it. Also, this has probably been said before, but maybe the screen should follow the ball up and down, instead of just seeing two screens, like the scrolling in the game "Monster" by Patrick Davidson. Although, this doesn't have to do with Pinball, I was wondering two things: First, is there a site anybody knows or just someone who could review my games? Also, is there some way I could get a library to group files together, but that's about all it does (meaning without the extra 100+ functions that drive up a libraries).

Alright. As far as the card part, its really good. You have got a nice variety of options, although it would probably be a good idea if you could squeeze in one more mode of play in each one. Not nessacary, but it would help. The graphics are as good as any card game needs. Considering that its in basic, the speed is good and bearable. The stats are also a good addition.
However, it still needs some work. Just by playing it for a few minutes, I noticed two bugs. I don't know why this happens, but occasionaly, when you are trying to put in a bet, it will crash when you press a number. The other error is that when you dont enter anything and press enter, it crashes. Also, while its impossible to stop, cheating in your game is very easy. This might be intentional on your part, or not. The first way of cheatin gis saving after every game. If you lose, you just go back to a saved game and continue. The other way is editing the lists to unlock cheats or edit your stats. You should probably develop a more complicated way of storing stats and a way to check this, so the person will have to change several numbers to a certain amount to edit it. If you want more advice, or help, just ask.
All in all, id give them 8.5/10. I'm not that much of a fan of card games, but I liked your games. For a basic game, its very nice

Once again, I must say thanks again. First of all, I have some questions/comments. What kind of extra mode would you want? To tell you the truth, I can't think of too many new ideas, maybe you could help me with that.
I never noticed the entering nothing bug, that I will definetly fix that for the next version. Also, what exactly do you mean that the game crashes occasionally when entering a number (meaning did it happen with a certain number, a non-number button, entering in something weird, etc.; what error came up when this happened; how often this happened; etc). This has never happened to me before so I am interested in how the error appears.
Now to the issue of cheating. For the changing of the numbers in the lists, for the first couple of versions I did have cheat protection, where you would have to enter in several numbers to change something, just like you suggested. I soon took that out becuase I felt it was taking up unnecessary space and adopted the "if you want to cheat, fine, but you will ruin your experience with the game" kind of attitude. Should I add that back, and if yes, what for (meaning just statistics, or statistics and opening up modes, changing save files, etc)? Secondly, about the just re-continuing a game matter. Just like before with the anti-cheating, I made it so that wouldn't happen. Also like before, I got rid of it for memory saving and adopted the same train of thought. Should I stop this from happening, and if yes, how (meaning deleting your saved file after continuing once, or something else).

Wow, the weirdest thing happened. I opened the page, and I wanted to check the new files for today. Well, all there was was the header for the files, but no files. I thought that it was strange.
