New 3D Project
Posted by Joey on 9 May 2003, 02:32 GMT

Thibaut Chevalier is working on a new 3D project for the 89, 92+, and V200. It can reach 20 FPS, and will render scenes from a tilemap. No release date is set, but he plans to release a clone of the old 3D car racing PC game "Stunts" once the engine is perfected. Find out more at his website.

I noticed that at TI-News.com
That's a really cool project; I hope that he finishes it, because it would be a great addition to the TI community.

Why is the French TI-89/92 programming so big? French are 50 millions, less than Germany or UK.

rephrase your question. BTW, the preview of this new engine looks very promising. On Moitib's website he says that this new engine is faster than his dementia engine.

I haven't said this engine is faster than Space Dementia's one. It has more features, so it may be slower... But I isn't worth making a comparison because the things displayed are not the same !

I must have read it wrong, but this new engine you are making looks incredible accurate. Good luck and your progress

I think what he is trying to say is -why is the majority of 68k calc programming done by the french? France has a population about 50 mil less than britain or germany.-
I myself am a bit curious as to why a very good portion of the programs for the 68k calcs are done by people in france, and if they are that big on programing then how come it isnt as much in the z80 calcs as it is in the 68k's (i don't have anything against the french so you can stop thinking about that, heck i'm interested in a girl of french background)

It seems to me most programmers are students "post-baccalaureat" who use 68k calcs for the possibilities they offer in algebra (CAS...). So they prefer 68k calcs to the ones of the TI83 serie...
In the USA, the TI83 serie seems to be more popular.

That makes sense, I guess. Was the first calculator that you had a TI-86? According to your website, this is just your second (?) 68k project. Maybe someone should port some of your TI-86 games to the 83 series.

By the way, in English, "serie" isn't really a word, only "series" is commonly used.

You are right with my calculators/project.
Someone has begun to port RBlade to the 83+, but I don't know if he is still on the project... that's not easy to do, the program is a bit complicated.

I can't believe that after all this time, nobody has fixed that bloody blinking effect on the grayscale of those m68k calcs.

OMG, 38? Wow...

I don't think the flicker is all that bad on the HW2...

Re: Re: Re: New 3D Project

the flickering is only noticeable with 7/8 level grayscale or when you are outside. But considering that the calculators were not designed for grayscale, I think it has been a tremendious advancement.

And I only use 4 level grayscale, so I never really saw a lot of flicker. Compared to the TI-82 ("fake grayscale"), it's pretty good :)

I know that 7/8 flicker, but how do I do 8 level in C without making the program shell dependant?

Sorry, I mixed up kernel and shell again. That should read, with out making it kernel dependant.

It looks better (less flickering and lagging) on a real calc than on the screenshot (taken from Virtual TI).

I've only played with TI-Chess on a real 92+ HW2, so if this 3D has the same flicker quality, then it's not that bad. VTI is fine for Z80 grayscale, I think.

Why cannot the 83+ display gray, but the 86 can? Ues I know all about the gratscale thing from before, but that is not a built in function.

The 83+ CAN display grey!

Thanks!
It's a bit slow (unless you set the interrupt frequency to '6' - but then the grey starts to flicker).

Because TI are gyp.
They could build it in - or even better, use a twin-layer LCD (two LCDs sandwiched together) with one being a lower contast than the other - you then issue a command as to which LCD to draw on to get an illusion of grey (old Psions use this method - don't know about the new ones)

Gyp, shortened form of gyppo, (rude) slang term for Gypsy.
If someone is (a) 'gypsy', they are basically just skipping doing something (like building in greyscale) because they can't be bothered.

Grayscale is not a built-in capability because TI calcs are made to do math, and to do math you don't need grayscale. Moreover it is easier to read a screen in black&white than in grayscale...

Grayscale is not built into the 68k calcs. It's done about the same way as on the Z80 calcs, more or less.

I beg to differ, as the 83+ Silver Edition has built in greyscale capabilities. (Yes,I Have tested this via crappy Basic progs.)
