Archivers Discuss Peeps
Posted by Joey on 23 April 2003, 08:32 GMT

ticalc.org was down from about 4:45 to 6:20 GMT today. Unable to add files for more than 1.5 hours, Morgan and I consoled each other, discussed marshmallow Peeps, and waited for the site to come back up. Somehow, life moves on.

Update (Joey): Despite the red border, everything mentioned in this article actually happened. The only reason it is red is because it is "funny".

Now we need a poll about this:

Is it right to fiddle while the server burns?
Yes, unconditionally
Yes, as long as you have Peeps to talk about
No, unless it's someone's fault
No, unconditionally

I don't think that this rating is right:
http://www.ticalc.org/archives/ files/fileinfo/279/27945.html
is rated first in the top downloads this week! It's above VTI! That just rings wrong with me. Is this true?

It would seem to me that our dear friend (???) "bdklsldkq lskdglsdk" downloaded his own file thousands of times...

2000+ downloads in like 3 days? Thats not right. The next closest was VTI with 700. Something fishy is going on here *LOL* :).

hopefully you understood that i was joking, but how is it that vti, still has so many downloads, doesnt everyone have it yet. it seams like visitors would just be looking for games and other programs for their calc, and everyone else would have downloaded it years ago.

This is IMPOSSIBLE!

I mean, it's an INTEREST program. It's BASIC. It's not a game. It is a MATH program. No screenshots. Not a featured program. The only program ever made by this "bdklsldkq lskdglsdk". Compare it to VTI. Now, I'm not saying it's bad, but compared to VTI, and all the programs made by Patrick Davidson, and Thomas Nussbaumer, and all the other really great programmers, it sucks.

Yes. Something wierd is going on. True, no one would download something 2000 times. I think this guy has highspeed internet. And a autodownloader.

Which brings me to say, I got #1 Voyage 200 file the first week I put TankWars (the first Voyage 200 game I made) up. And I didn't download it a single time (I didn't need to)! Horray! GO ME! :)

If you have the 2.07 OS for your V200, I found an undocumented feature! Open up a BASIC program in the Editor, next hit 2nd 3 (Turn on Custom Menu), lastly hit F6. Through it doesn't do anything 'bad' I can't believe I found a bug like this in TI's OS! As far as I know it only works in the Program Editor.

First of all, GET A VOYAGE they are awesome. Secondly, it does nothing important, just screws up the menu a little bit. Nothing permanent.

Re: ~

LOL! Easy to hack! Save it to a .js file, change document.write to something else like alert, and run it. You can even make it output to a file...

Not to mention it is still somewhat easy to read.

No, try to read the *pure HTML* source code.

Re: ~

There's a really easy workaround for that, other than
1. having a keyboard with the context menu key
2. going to View->Source
3. saving the page and editing it

If you right-click, then hold down the space bar on the 'OK' button, right click somewhere on the page, then let go of space, then let go of the right click, the menu still pops up.

Or, you could just get a better browser than IE. Like, say, Mozilla. GNU4EVAH!

Yeah, a long while back, I did that for one of my programs, but I think I only downloaded it about 3-5 times. It really didn't make a difference.

No! Look at the link! It's a math program (a BASIC one at that, only 2K), and it's very new. I'm sure he did sit there, downloading it a couple thousand times (how boring). n00b!

Archiver doesn't come with that much power(Ability to change download count). We have been wrong before on matters like this, so we are checking first.
