Pending Down to Darn Near Nothing
Posted by Nick on 12 March 2003, 20:46 GMT

As of press time, our pending queue is at thirteen files. This being a lower number than, say, eleven frickin' hundred is probably worthy of a news post.

Congratulations to Joey and Morgan on a wonderful job done over the past week.

Great! You can definitely tell that the new archivers
are helping: I sent two files to ticalc.org so far in
my history of visiting this site. One was posted about
four months ago, one was posted two weeks ago. Both
files were updated within three days of each other.
By looking at these figures alone you can deduct that
they went through four months of files in only three
days. Congratulations to the new archivers for their
remarkable achievment and also congratulations to all
those at ticalc.org... we certainly appreciate your
website and the new speed at which files are being
updated.

Hurray!!
IIRC, I think the pending files was in the 1400's at one time, but maybe it was 1200's...
In any case, it's about time that all the files are caught up!

I haven't posted any files (yet), and the programs I do write are either simple little things (like what times the bell rings on a schedule we use once a year) or never get finished (either because I get bored of it or I find a better, complete, most often ASM one). (Yes, I only do Basic for now, but IMHO z80 ASM is too *SIMPLE* because I use x86 ASM (computers....).

Z80 asm is much harder than x86, because the instruction set is much more limited, and the number of registers is also much less. x86 asm is no challenge.

But then, nobody bothers to learn 68k ASM (at least for calculators), now that TIGCC is out, and nearing v1.0.

The register limitation stuff in z80 is what makes it hard, IMO. Also, only certain commands affect certain flags.

INC B ;does, but
INC BC ;doesn't.

This was a clever design decision, believe it or not. The reason is explained in my guide.

Where's the guide? I've often wondered about things like that. Is the guide for 83/+ or the 82? If it's for the 83/+ series, is it for regular asm (Asm(prgmPOOP)) or is it for Ion/Mirage/SOS/etc.?

It's for the Z80 CPU, regardless of the hardware it is built into. See link.

Ehh, that's what I meant, kinda...

I should have made it clearer that it would be too hard for me to adapt to the limited instruction set and the 8/16-bit architecture... :p

It was 1300 ;)

z80 isn't simple! It's cunfyoozing!

Actually, at the exact moment that Morgan and I started, pending was at 1278. Also, I guess Nickdelicious was the first one to notice, despite the fact that pending has been near 0 since Monday. I didn't think we'd make the Pi Day goal, but we did, with plenty of time to spare! Now, I must go continue my memorization of pi. (I'm up to 133. Whee!)

1300 was an estimation. :) I thought it was 129x (x=any digit), though, but you know how I'm always wrong... haha :)

Good Job Morgan & Joey. Lol, I have never seen it that low before. Also, you guys must have put in a good deal of time to get 100+ files uploaded each day. If only everyone was as diligent as you two! Keep up the good work.

Yeah, this is the lowest I've ever seen it. 0<50+ w00t!

That graph thing that Patrick Sydney made is cool. It was my idea ;-) (Actually, I think that he thought of it before I did and just didn't let me know, lol) I was too lazy to do it :)

Superb job, Joey and Morgan.

Now just keep it down there and clean up those few files that ended up in the wrong directory, and *everybody* will be happy :-)

What about implementing a file rating system? The one at R:K:O (see link) seems to work quite well.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Pending Down to Darn Near Nothing

Ya, but we can't even have any reviewers when there is no reviewing editor. If you look at the list of staff, the position is vacant. By the way, didn't Eric used to do that? Also, it would be nice to do a totally online form, not just a text-based one you have to e-mail in. Oh well, just a thought. Also, for reviewing I don't believe having IRC or any other chat progs is really necessary. All a person has to do really is review and send it in. Then the Reviewing Editor looks over it, does suggestions and stuff, and sends it back to the original reviewer. The reviewer changes and spices it up, sends it in, and the Reviewing Editor looks over it one last time to make sure its fine. Then it is posted, and everyone is happy. It seems to me this whole process would only take 3-4 days, which isn't very long at all. Well, gotta go!

I don't answer that e-mail. I answer filearchive@ticalc.org and I was answering help@ticalc.org, but that e-mail is having some difficulties as of right now. Magnusanswers that e-mail so don't send it there. Send it to filearchive@ticalc.org.
