Well, nickd probably helped decide who the next news editor would be, since he held that role for years. And Michael Vincent probably told Detached Solutions. Then, as I just found out, I'm under 10000 by a little over 500.

Yeah, I guessed that he told Detached.

I saw a guy (just about 10 posts back) who's username was >40000.

That's quite possible. In some cases gaps occur in the sequence of ids. The total existing users is still <40,000.

Have accounts ever been deleted before? That might be another explanation if it ever happened.

To all those who applied and failed, well, you'll be all right. To Mr. Vincent, I'm not suprised because that name is very familiar to me, although the person isn't. He seems a worthy person to hire. I think he should get at least twice minimum wage.
