ticalc.org is hiring
Posted by Magnus on 8 December 2002, 14:45 GMT

Ok, so we're hiring. The post we are currently after is primary news editor. This means that you will be actively "hunting" for news to post on our site, both from outside sources and from our file archive. Secondary work expected if you have the time include surveys and maintaining static content on our site (it should not be quite as static as it currently is).

So, what's required of you? Mainly time. Doing news can take a lot of time - talking to a lot of people, reading a lot of sites... Naturally, a decent familiarity with "the TI scene" as it is today is also required, so you'd know how and where to find things to post. As for special skills, none are really required. You will need to be reasonably fluent in the written English language. While we happily accept staff members from outside the US (see our current staff listing for proof of this), English is the only language used on our site.

Sounds interesting? Let us know at newstaff@ticalc.org. Please include the following information:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Age
  • Current level of education (finished or unfinished)
  • Where you live (town/state/country)
  • Approximate amount of time you think you can put into this per week
  • Quick summary of relevant experience
  • A quick motivation on why we should pick you
  • If you have MSN or AIM or similar as means for us to contact you

We will accept applications until Dec 22nd.
Also, please note that we are looking for a long-term commitment. If you think you only have time or want to do this for a couple of months, we are currently not interested.

Update (22/12): Ok, no more applications. There were a lot though, so it'll take us a while to get through them all.

Thanks to all those who sent in applications. We may not be able to respond to each of you in person unless further questions are required.

To everyone who is wondering: All the sites hosted on my computer (CCoderz, TIProgramming, Polar Computing, etc.) will be down until about January 13th, because the school has turned the power off in my dorm. That means, of course, that my computer is offline. Sorry about this, but I have no control over it.

TO MAGNUS
Patrick Sidney  Account Info
(Web Page)

I have a small, but very important message to Magnus and the TICALC.org staff:

Please! Hire more file archivers! Your file archives have not been updated for quite some time!

MORE Archivers = MORE files = LESS death of the calculator community.

You guys know as well as i do that the calculator network (Shall I say, "Network") is dying.

Take a look at ti-fr (or whatever that was called). It's DEAD.

Take another look at CALC.org. It was almost DEAD.

When did TI release a new calculator? Early this year... But guess what? It was essentially a newer TI92!

I suggest that we, as calculator fanatics, and the TICALC.ORG staff ought to do the following:

- Use YOUR imagination! Don't release another version of Pheonix! (Come on, we have like a thousand versions of it!)

- I say that if you are not a programmer, or likewise, you have no right to use this forum board!

- Hire more Archivers... (I have at least 10 files waiting to be archived!)

- Hiring a news editor is a good idea, but it will take many more News "Finders" to get the job done

- File Reviewers are a must! When TICALC.ORG reviews files, people can tell the difference between a crappy program, and a true masterpeice!

That's all I have to say for now...

Although I have little sa in the calculator community, (Wait maybe not, I work @ calc.org, calcsoft.tk, tidimension.tk, etc.) I hope that this message will be passed on to you, Magnus, and the rest of you TICALC.ORG staffers...

If you want to reply to this, email me at boguscalc@yahoo.com

Why don't you just e-mail him this message? I agree with you about that archive part. THEY NEED TO UPDATE THE FREAKING ARCHIVES!... okay that was a bit immature... but seriously, they really do need updated. Otherwise, people will *abandon* the site! (not me, but still I'd like some updates)

It certainly is disheartening to log onto ticalc.org every day only to see that the latest archive update was December 7.

Btw, don't bother to correct the grammar on the above post. It's not worth it.

How about....
Instead of "I say that if you are not a programmer, or likewise, you have no right to use this forum board!"
you say...
If you don't atleast know BASIC, or you are gonna act like a complete ass (i.e. Paul on tinews.net), you can't post on this board.

I think cuss words are completely a**-like if they are not abbreviated or have letters taken out...

More original games for Patrick Sydney
JcN

I agree. I have about 50 TI-83+ BASIC programs and 5 really good TI-83+ assembly games almost ready to be released. It would be good to have the file updates back. I hope the programs I plan to release as soon as it is back online are original enough, though.

If you want to have some, e-mail me! w00t!

Actually, having a birthday near christmas sucks, people tend to compound the two events into one and you get shafted. My b-day is in February, but a couple of my friends are near x-mas and they hate it. You don't get nearly as many presents as you would if they were farther apart.

What a shame!

Fortunately for me, my birthday is in January, less than a month after Christmas. Any stuff that I didn't receive on Christmas that I wanted goes immeadiatly to my birthday list.

Enjoy your holiday, lord_nightrose! w00t!

¡Bienvenidos de Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!

Hehe, no. I'm not 21, just 20... sort of... I've made it a practice of telling people I'm whatever age I'm actually closer to. so when I was 19 1/2, I was 20... so now I actually *am* 20. heh. But I'm in Mexico, so I can drink legally anyway - the minimum age is 16 here!!!

So anyway, my brother, four college kids, and I all went out drinking last night. They all got totally trashed, while I was only slightly buzzed. I'm not much for alcohol, and especially not 'b33r'.

Yep, I celebrate Christmas. In fact, we did it the day before we left, on the 21st.

Nah, I've never gotten shafted on gifts. In fact, sometimes my parents aren't sure how much to get me, so they get me *lots* of gifts. I got a digital camera! Woohoo!
