New File Upload Form
Posted by Magnus on 10 March 2002, 17:54 GMT

A new handling of file uploads have been installed on ticalc.org. The process looks pretty much the same to the end user - most of the changes are "under the hood". However, the following user visible changes have been made:

  • A ticalc.org user account is now required to upload files. Files are automatically tied to this account.
  • If you are updating a file that already exists in the archives, you will be requested to confirm that this is actually an update.
  • If you are uploading a separate file that conflicts in name with a file already in our archives (in the same directory, of course) or the pending queue you will be asked to rename the file on upload.
  • It will now be possible to have more than one file with the same name in the pending queue at the same time - as long as they are in different directories. This makes it possible to upload the same program for multiple calculators with the same name.
These changes were made both to make the process for our file archiver easier and faster, and to add features for our users. By changing most of the infrastructure behind the upload process, we have also prepared for further feature additions in the future.

If you have any problems uploading files, please contact filearchive@ticalc.org.

Update (Magnus): Another new field has been added to the update form - "Comment to file archiver". That way you won't have to accompany your upload with a mail telling our archiver what you want done, if you want something non-standard.

WHOA! Two first comments in a row? w00t!

Anyway, this sounds like it'll make uploading files easier, as well as make it take less time to get them into the archives. Good work ticalc!

This sounds really sweet! I think I'm going to like these new changes!

BTW I made a program that takes up about 6KB and all it does is display "This program takes up way too much space."

3rd comment :P

I like the new changes. (I uploaded a program to see what the new changes looked like.) It's easier to use and it's more convenient. But, I don't understand the purpose of the comment, if it is not included in the archives! What is it's purpose? Do the ticalc people read that for extra information?

Yes, we do, and that's exactly the purpose of it.

For most uploads, it makes no difference. But we have some people who want the archiver to know extra information about the file or how it shuold be processed. Previously, this was either done by sending a mail to filearchive@ticalc.org (which may or many not, usually not, be read before the file is added to the archives) or by putting it in the program description (which required the archiver to remove it before approving the file).

Oh and when I want to have an extra subfolder for levelpacks? I recently uploaded a bonus levelpack for Mario Deathmatch but there was no folder for Mario Deathmatch levelpacks so I uploaded it in the levels misc folder.. Do I have to re-upload it now?

speaking of that program, Mario Deathmatch,

I saw that in the 83 archives, and thought it looked really cool. Would it be possible for you to port it to the 82, or is there something I could to myself to port it?

I tried mario deathmatch on my 83 and 83+ and it ran SUPER SLOW!!! Once about every ten seconds your guy moved a pixel.

That's slow ... was it assembly or BASIC? If it's BASIC, then it's understandable. But if it's assembly, then it's just plain sad. (Not that I can program in assembly)

nope I have tested it and released it for the 'normal' TI-83 and it runs at 30 a 40 fps so you can't complain about speed.. I've heard about the slow framerate on the plus.. It was caused by a wrong rom routine. Now Tijl helped me a bit with this and it should be solved. However I can't test it and béta testers say that it crashes the calc after quitting the game on the plus. Someone else having these problems on the plus?

conclusion.. It works fine on the normal TI-83 high framerate, but it crashes your calc on the TI-83 plus thats the reason why I did't upload it for the plus.

P.S. I am not able to port it to the 82 same reason as above but it is open source so go ahead!

I'm not too good at assembly, but I'll give it a try. Hope there's nothing too complex in there...

If anyone wants to see the programs I've made on this site, then click on the Web Page thing below my name (no_one_2000_). As you see, I'm not to good at assembly, because the only assembly 82 games I made are tron and tron two-player (LOL).

(hehe, download Game123 for the 82.)

that sucks, because I'm the only with an 83 now (someone just sold their 83 for a plus). every one else has a plus, 82, or 89. (I have all of those :)
So if it could be ported to the 82 or fixed for the plus, that'd be great.

oh boy! Sounds like ticalc.org is improving! There's one more missing, edit screenshots. That would really really really help us out!

Hey, that's a great idea! Of course, it would be hard for ticalc. They'd have to verify all the screenshots, but it would be a nice feature. I'm still learning PERL, so I wouldn't be much of a help. :(

PARADE!

w00t, indeed! It seems like this will make it easier for those of us who actually make programs... Speaking of which, is there anyone here (other than depleateduranium :-p) who talks on the boards all the time but never actually makes programs or anything? &$&*@ freeloaders!!! (j/k)
