Polynomial Root Finder FLASH Application
Posted by Eric on 1 November 2001, 00:56 GMT

TI has recently released its newest flash application, Polynomial Root Finder, for the TI-89 and TI-92+ (log in first to activate link). The application allows a user to quickly calculate the roots of a polynomial and also contains some more advanced features. Thanks to Olivier Miclo for the link.

I agree, but too bad I don't have a TI 92 Plus.

Go figure.

How could they even post a news article without opening the archives back up. I mean they could at least give people acess to trusted programs like TIGCC SUITE or at least the computer section of the archives. The computer section wasn't even on the cd I don't think,

on that note, how about changing the survey? and i also noticed that there hasn't been a newsletter since march. i know they are working on the archives and everything, but whats so hard about changing the survey? or anything?

That's because they couldn't! Archivers are run by the SS Scripts and the script probably doesn't have an option to disable certain folders. That's just an idea, maybe they just don't want to open them until they're done reviewing.

You have to keep in mind how much these people are working. You've all seen how many programs there are out there. They have to get each one onto a calculator, test it, and see it it's okay. If it's not, then they have to go and edit the site so that it's not avalible. That takes a while. And the survey is superfluous in the first place. Why do you care so much about it? It's not like those questions are going to be on the SAT's.

Whew! That got a lot off mychest. I just can't wait for those archives to be up again.

I could probably do this alone in a week using the VTI emulator...

I think people are already smelling bugs in this program...haha...check out the discussion boards at education.ti.com.

Like the person before me, I probably won't have much use for this. woohoo.

kthxbye

Its good that there making flash apps for the TI-89, too bad this is pretty much already built into the calculator, ie solve(... Kinda wish they would produce more falsh apps like calctools, thats extend functionality instead of make it more "user friendly".

This app actually does something that wasn't integrated in TI89/92. The solve command is not specially suited for polynomials and there are many cases where it throws erroneous solutions.
The new app however is not perfect. And even though is hundred times faster that the solve/csolve command for solving polynomials, it has some problems solving some polynomials.
For a great beta program for solving polynomials fast and accurate try http://cybernesto.0catch.com

I really like the TI-89 and 92+ (I ,btw have an 89 and 83+ so i'm not just complaining because I don't have an 89)but why waste time makeing a poly flash application. The Solve( command easily can do all the stuff that the poly does and does not always return approximations. TI should spend their time making that differential grapher the 83+ desperatly need (for people who do not wish to buy an 86 and goes to a school that does not allow 89s in AP calc class). Or atlease make better flash applications for the 89. The only good Flash made by TI I've seen is the statistics program.

Quit bitchin' and buy a 92 or a 92 plus if you like it so much.

Jesus!

My point is that that that TI could be making better flash applications for both 83+ and 89(or 92+) and not ones that we would hardly ever use. What in the world is "buy a 92 or a 92 plus if you like it so much" suppose to mean anyway?

Does 'we' actually mean 'I'? I'm sure that there are lots of people who will find this program useful. I however, would like to see their organizer app completed (they promise to release it for about half a year).

They already released the Organizer app, for the 83+ at least. It comes with the silver Edition, but you might be able to download it from TI.

I know, and still keep releasing apps for 83+ and have they forgot about 89? They just keep promising...

My advice is to completely ignore flash apps. They're large and often slower than a quick little assembly or C program that can do the same thing.

I mean, come on. A "US Presidents Information" app? What the hell was TI smoking? And where can *I* get some??

The thing about flash apps, though, is that they are more flexible, TI can update the app's functionality without making us re-install the OS. The other thing is that the apps do allow us users to "customize" our calculationg needs. It is also true, however, that is is quite a pain in the rear to have these little programs floating around in the FLASH Rom wasting our space.

Yeah, but no one has made a good ogranizer in 89 C! The one for 83+ is okay, but should be greatly improved. I also agree that flash apps just waste archive memory.
