No, small BASIC games like this were out a long time ago in the program archives on TI's site... besides, it'll be a looooong time before TI bundles Space Monkey Quest with their calculators. :)

Also, when you ordered the TI GRAPH-LINK software disks through the mail, they would sometimes send some sample programs in BASIC, which included a few games.

Does any one have a Ti-83++ yet? and if so how well do they perform? I know Ti was talking them up a lot, but it would be nice to have an unbiased opinion about them.

my math teacher works for ti, and they gave him one for free. He let me borrow it for the night, seeing as i would be the only one interested in it.
i ran various tests, benchmarks, that sort of thing.
it runs faster than any other z80 machine on the home screen, but the graph screen is still unnoticable faster. small asm games like fall down are rediculously fast (7g, wacka goomba)
overall, if i didnt already own a ti calc, id get a + se, but its not worth purchasing. You'd find it to be very similar to your old 83+.

Err, I've had a SE for a while now, and my finding seem to disagree quite a bit with your own. In fact, I've found almost everything to be complete backwards of what you said. The home screen isn't noticably faster, because it isn't noticably slow to begin with. The only time you'd notice a speed increase is during a complicated calculation; a numerical integral or the like. On the other hand, I've found that graphing is *much* faster than the 83 Plus, nearly three times as fast in fact. Assembly programs run at the same speed as the 83 Plus. TI's documentation supports this; are you sure about the speed infos you mentioned?

i ran series of equations and graphs against my 83+ and my 86, timed em both, and the 83+ se beat em all. the se was nearly twice as fast on certain equations-which is what i meant by homescreen. as for graphs, i ran sin curves and cosine curves up against eachother, and they werent too much different. i thought the asm games seemed faster, although all i tried was falldown, and 7g and wack a goomba. maybe its me? i dono...

try graphing on a 92+ or overclocked Handspring with Powerone graph

That's impossible at the present time. Unless those games are modified to run at 15 MHz, they are running at the same speed as a normal 83+.

you have too much time on your hands to run benchmarks on calculators, not even the top of the line ones like the 92+ I have!

Umm, just look in the TI-89 BASIC directory... I own a TI-89 and I look in the 92+ folder just to see if there is anything that looks useful.

Good question! But even though 89 is more 'game friendly', most people tend to buy 83 instead.
I don't know why 83++ is so cool, because it cost s as much as 89, but 89 is more powerfull.

yep even the new ti83s is crap in my opinion, however it was smart for ti to do that, for me even, i started out w/a crappy ti-82 which i stole/bought(we pay taxes to)from geometry...from there i moved onto a ti-83+ which i found/stol from graphic arts(i was just sitten there, knowone touched, for the 1st 2 mins of class anyway)...after that my friend bought an 89, and so did i, and now i am a little smarter and a little wiser, for instance the ti92+ is a waste of money and space(just get a laptop and run vti is you need it so bad), so for all of you newbies out there...its ok to learn w/a ti-83, but don't spend any money on them, just get a ti-89 and impress your friends, also anybody know where i can get the upgrade for aliens v.s. predators.

while purchasing my 92+ ate the biggest fricken whole in my pocket, it was well worth the money, the QWERTY keyboard is great, the way you hold it for games feels so much better than the generic 83,86,89 boody style. It also has the biggest damn screen which I love, not to mentoin it is so much cheaper than buying an iBook, maybe not cheaper than buying some Windoze running peice of Shit from compaq, but a hell of a lot cheaper than an iBook.

i used my brothers 89 before. The only thing i liked about was the games. to do any math functions, it was rediculously confusing, but im sure as my 83+ did, it gets easier as u learn the controls. I have an 83+ and dont plan on getting any other calculator, 89, especialy a 92+. I dont plan on getting an 83+ se either--my 83+ is 90% the same, speed/mem, not worth $120. I like the 83/+ because of its simplicity in language, and ease of use. Plus, im the only one at my highschool who knows what the Prgm key does--thats my $0.02

All of this is do to it's popularity. Actaully, the 83+ is quite a bit cheaper than the 89 because you can get it on sale easier. And, because of it's popularity in High School teachers, that is what many students buy or are required to buy. Also, I have used a friends TI92+, and the extra functionality provided by it is not even used in High School. The only real advantages it has is faster processor (which is harder to program for) and more memory (but programs that do the same thing take up more space). The Ti-83+ SE helps with all of that, too.
