TIMM v1.4.72 Released
Posted by Eric on 16 May 2001, 04:58 GMT
Frank Schoep and Sherman Cahal have released a sizeable update to TItanium MultiMedia, their popular movie-making program (You may have noticed that it was released a few days ago, except that the zip file was corrupted-it's fixed now). What's new here that deserves yet another mention, you ask? Well, it now supports the TI-89 and TI-92+! It also supports different screen sizes, file sizes, formats, and a whole bunch more. Go check it out, yo.

It sure took him long enough for porting to 68k. I don't understand at ALL why he didn't start it that way. :)

Problem with TIMM
|

|
When I run my video through it, it says it converts okay, and says the file is located at C:\Program Files\TIMM\video.[platform]p, and in my case, the platform is 89. But it never shows up there. What's going on?

Re: TIMM v1.4.72 Released - Can't get it to work!

I installed the new version of TIMM but now that the program reaches Step 5 of 6, I get a message box that says "Use timm.exe to start TItanium MultiMedia". After I click OK all the buttons on the TIMM window are disabled except the [Exit] button. I wait and nothing happens. I get bored and I finally press [Exit] and I get no movie in the TIMM folder.
I tried it many times with an AVI and a GIF and it still doesn't work. E-mail me or post a message if you can help. Thanks.

For some reason, certain people are having this type of problem with TIMM (I had the very same problem). The reason of this is because the file 'vconvert.exe' is Windows-bases and can't work from a batch file. The batch file generated by the program uses DOS boxes, and vconvert will not work under DOS boxes. In order to fix this, you must first execute TIMM as you normally would, go to step 5 where the program seems to "stop", and do the following:
-- Open the file 'convert.bat' (in the TIMM directory)
that was just generated when you reached step 5 of
6 with Windows notepad.
-- Highlight and copy all of line 3 from the batch
file. (The line of text including the text
'vconvert' followed by some weird characters.
-- Press Start/Run from the Windows Start Menu.
(Remember, TIMM is still running on Step 5).
-- Press Ctrl+V to paste the line of text that you
copied from 'convert.bat' into the 'Open:' textbox.
-- After you copy the line of text in the textbox,
press 'Home' on your keyboard to go to the beginning
of the line that you just pasted into the Run
dialog.
-- Type the path that you installed TIMM into right
where the cursor is.
Here is an example of the line that should be there:
(Assumming that C:\TIMM was where you installed TIMM.)
c:\timm\vconvert C:\Games\Descent2\KillBot.AVI 83+ 8 0 125 1 F 00 0 0 8
('C:\Games\Descent2\KillBot.AVI' will be replaced with the path that your video that you are converting. -- This was a previous video that I converted.)
-- Press OK to run the program while still keeping TIMM running in Step 5.
If successful, the program will bring up a warning message telling you to minimize all open windows, and then a dialog box asking you for the name of the video.
**Not all videos will convert -- I best recommend you to set it to 'black and white' mode, which works will ALL videos. (You can use a good Imaging program to convert images to 2-bit Monocrome under error-diffusion to get an image that looks relative to the origional.)
Good Luck!
