UniversalOS v1.30 Released
Posted by Eric on 3 May 2001, 03:13 GMT

Julien Muchembled has released his new version of UniversalOS for the TI-89 and TI-92+. In case you missed it, UniversalOS is one of those fast-rising shells for the 68K calculators, so be sure to check it out if you're into that sorta thing. What's new, you ask? Mostly bugfixes, but a few new minor features as well.

the latest version of super mario which is known as space monkey quest (due to copyright issues) and street fighter is only avaible for plusshel which only works on hw1 ams 1.00 so you will have to wait til a new version is released.

The author is supposedly working on it. FlashZ ported it to AMS 2.0x but was not allowed to release it because Thomas said he wants to finish the project alone or something. On the upper notes about SMQ, SMQ works fine on AMS 2.0x calcs, it's the level editor that does not.

why stick with doors when it is unstable and has bad grayscale implementation? unios features anti-crash suport and has far better hw2 support then doors, and soon you won't have to even use hw2patch. it also works on ALL roms, and doors only works on 2.04 and below.

Correction: The latest version of DoorsOs works with 2.05. Your info's a little outdated, I'm afraid.

Well, I have 2.05, so I had to go beta . . .

. . . But I'm not using it anymore ;).

I've downloaded Universal Os, and I'm impressed. It's small, and I'm still waiting for a crash . . .

. . . which libraries are not built-in? I know filelib, what else?

Is it really 100% compatible? Any issues?

From the Read-me, and a direct "quote" (copy, paste)

- Util, userlib, gray4lib, gray7lib (except on HW2), graphlib and
linelib have been reprogrammed and integrated (i.e. in the 'kernel'
variable) into Universal OS.

Not on my calc, DoorsOS v0.99 Beta crashes at random. Doors just doesn't work anymore, and they've been working on their beta for over 6 months.

Yeah, you missed something, He's referring to Nick, The Nick that was replaced by Eric. H used to do the news for ticalc. He (nick er.. eric) was also heavily parodied by calc.org's april 1st prank

UniversalOS is smaller and more portable then doors along with better compatibility. It's like a total of 10k and it includes a bunch of built in libraries so you don't need them laying around in your main folder. Don't stick with doors, if you're running 2.03 at least use TEOS.

I agree. I have had exactly 0 crashes since putting Universal OS on my calc. DoorsOS constantly crashed my calculator. Plus - no library files all over the place is a very nice feature.

I have been unable to run FallDown and FlashSavior from TICT Explorer (I have Universal OS 1.30 installed on an HW1 AMS 2.05). It says it is missing 'filelib'. Any suggestions?

AMS version 2.05 still has the memory problems of the rest of the ti 2.0x series. You cannot run any program over 24k and if you had the sma e experiance I had then you know that patching version 2.05 is more likely to crash your calc htan anything else. E-mail me and I might be able to help you out more.

Read the doc !

"- Util, userlib, gray4lib, gray7lib (except on HW2), graphlib and
linelib have been reprogrammed and integrated (i.e. in the 'kernel'
variable) into Universal OS." (readme.txt)
Filelib isn't integrated and you must add it yourself. Filelib is available in DoorsOS II v0.98.

After I added the necessary libraries and tried to run either Flash Savior or FallDown, it said 'Address Error'. What could be wrong?

It is certainly due to the programs themselves.
I think Flash Savior has been fixed (see www.ti-fr.org).
Don't Falldown work ? Did you try the AMS 2.0x version ?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: UniversalOS v1.30 Released

I have noticed that a lot of people do not carefully read posts, news items, etc. I have occasionally misread some things as well. As I said in a post above, the calculator is an HW1 AMS 2.05.

Anyway, I seem to have trouble with any program which requires libraries not included in Universal OS.

Wait, are you saying that only the AMS 2.0x FallDown 0.1 will work, but FallDown 2.8 will not?

In fact, I haven't played with FallDown since FallDown 2.8 came.
But it works. Do you use DoorsOS II 0.98's libraries ?

you have to wait until the author ports it to ams 2.x. so most likely in the next version.

And the freeing of unallocated memory handles feature of doorsos has caused interferences with one of my programs.

Also does anybody understand what this low power ram call does exactly. I am having trouble understanding the docs.

>what this low power ram call does exactly ?
Nobody to explain ?

Well, it is an extension of tios::idle. If you didn't read its documentation in TIGCC, you should do so. It is also useful to know how the interrupts work.
I know it isn't explained well but all the information is there. I will try to explain it better.

Perhaps do you have a more precise question about it ? I could help you beter...
