Alien Invasion Released by Jason Ho
Posted by Eric on 5 February 2001, 00:36 GMT
So here I was, sitting ay my computer, calmly downloading my mail, when suddenly I see approximately 8973259237583 new email messages in my mailbox touting some new TI-89 game. Alien something-or-other. And so, after firing up the ol' Virtual TI, I saw that this program was, indeed, quite nice. So here it is: Alien Invasion, by heretofore unheralded Jason Ho. Alien Invasion is a shooting game for the TI-89 that's similar to others such as Phoenix. It features animation that runs at up to 70fps and contains the usual assortment of weapons, special items, and upgrades. Mad props to Jason for his accomplishment. Update (Eric): Looks like the new version, v1.1, is out already. This version fixes a bug in the high scores feature of the program. Update (Eric): And now v1.2 is out. Ahh, when will it all end? Update (Eric): And why don't we mention v1.3 while we're at it, and v1.4, and v1.5, and v1.6, and err, nevermind.

I for one am glad that Ticalc featured this game. It is the best I have seen for the 89, and I am sure that Jason worked long and hard to deliver all this fun to the TI community. Thanks for the hard work, Jason, and I hope that we'll see more of your work in the future. Great game.

(Read Subject Heading). Now I have to compete with another Ho. And he knows assembly, and he's Chinese too. Poser. :D. You'd probably would have a great game if I had a TI-89.

This is simply an incredible game that has quite a lot of replay value. This game is really enjoyable because it changes each time you play it, and requires a lot more thought than most shooters. Keep up the good work!

I love your game.... Only one that's ever kept me addicted for more than a couple days... However, I do have a minor complaint.... I often won't use my sheild for a few levels, but then I get an upgrade, and I can't see anything else changing, I assume I'm getting a shield recharge. If this is happening, could you please change it so this doesn't happen (unless, of course, you prefer it like this)?
Also, by the way, my highscore (in v1.3) is level 238. (Thanks to my level 88 cluster bombs... Press F1, F1, get the upgrade for the next for levels as the people appear and die... After four levels, repeat...)

Darn it! My high score is onyl 86, but there are teachers lurking everywhere in the school library, so once I save and come back in, some stupid homing missile comes and blows me to smittereens. The bug fix in 1.4 is great, and hopefully you will not make shield recharges redundant. BTW, I tried the directors cut, and it was great the first few times because of the shield recharge, but in the later levels, don't you think one point per three or so seconds is just way too slow, especially with massive amounts of teleportation? Sorry about the ranting.
My (e+e^-1)/2 cents.
