Sam Heald Ports Dying Eyes to TI-83+
Posted by Eric on 4 February 2001, 00:10 GMT

RPG fans, take note. Sam Heald of The Void Productions has ported the popular RPG Dying Eyes, originally written by legendary RPG programmer and all-around good guy Alex Highsmith (erm, yeah, I *think* he was a good guy...it's been a while...), to the TI-83+. What makes this even more special is that Sam's program works around the 8K limit on TI-83+ assembly programs. Source code has also been released for all you programmer dudes out there. Congratulations to Sam! (And thanks to Patrick Davidson for sending me word of this.)

Update (Eric): And in case you haven't heard yet, James Vernon has released Golvellius: Valley of Doom v0.1 for the TI-86. This is an RPG that features nice greyscale graphics, many enemies, items, and lots lots more (and even more when it's finished...).

I need a little help on a ti 89 problem:
Ive been trying to get streetfighter to work on my HWS 2 ver 2.03 calc, but it keeps freezing. Also, grayscale programs often do not work (such as imag'in". Can anyone help please - for instance, what version of the rom should i have (2.05, etc)?
I know this is slighly off topic, i didnt know where else to post.

Street Fighter crashes on any AMS/HW versions, and as for the grayscale, try installing Universal OS. Some people have told me that it improves grayscale.

Cool, this looks like an awesome game.

Btw, ive released a really fun space shooting game called Alien Invasion, that should appear on ticalc.org in a few days. Instead of just mowing down the enemies by holding down fire, Alien Invasion requires careful planning, fast thinking, and good judgement.

So when it gets posted, download it! :)

It's really cool that people are still posting good games for the 83+. It seems like the 89 has been the focus of so many programers because of its superior processor. Speakng of 89 games, the new Alien Invasion is really awesome. I'd encourage everyone to download it.

The 89 is just so easy to develop for thanks to TIGCC. Although I must admit that z80 assembly isn't that hard either =)

Finally the 83+ users have an RPG, although I think that Dying Eyes is a bit overrated. It's a fun game and all, but the fact that they say it has a "non-linear storyline" really isn't true, except for the two endings. It has non-linear gameplay, but no matter what you do, the same things happen. Also, almost all of the game is trying to level up, which some people may like, but I personally do not. I did enjoy playing Dying Eyes on my 83, but I think that it could have been better.
