Tezxas v2.2, Zelda 86, Pctools v0.87B
Posted by Eric on 6 November 2000, 21:41 GMT

While I was away on a camping trip this weekend, it looks like lots of other people were busy releasing various programs for the community:

  • Samir Ribic released Tezxas v2.2 for the TI-89 and TI-92+. The new version includes grayscale on HW2, AMS 2.XX support for HW2, and some other bugfixes.
  • Moving right along, ACZ has released Zelda 86. You can find more information, including some screenshots, at their website.
  • Finally, Benoit Scherrer has released a new version of Pctools, his GUI for the 89, 92, and 92+. It contains lots of new features and plugins, so to find out more check out his webpage.

Must say they all look good. I know I will be looking at zelda, probably look at pc tools hoped they fixed that weird bug that caused an adress error when you tried to scroll to certain letter of the alphabet (I don't remember which). I may look at the emulator although it is pretty big.

I am planning on creating a site specifically for Zelda 86 (along with redoing the ACZ site). It will focus on the internals of the game, which will be quite helpful for anyone wanting to make maps, and might give some people writing games like this some hints. If you want to know how Zelda is, download it and try it out!

I would, but there's no emulator for the 89 ;)
I only said it made me interested to know how it is, since it does seem nice.

If someone wants...and points them all..or whatever, I guess I will fix them for whoever wants. It shouldn't be a problem. I never used it enough to notice the bugs.

I'll probably find it easier if you email.

WOW! What a game! This game is simply amazing just like the original Zelda's! The plot is great, and the game design is one that certainly goes well with the 86. I am very surprised with this game. The fact that it is a Zelda game puts it high on my list, but the fact that it is an AWESOME Zelda game puts it even higher. I would like to commend the makers of this game. EXCELLENT JOB and hopefully we will see a sequal to this game!

Re: Zelda 86
HighDefinition

We most likely won't see a sequel unless someone new decides to pick up the game from the original creators. And I hope someone does!

"I believe that the source code requires the latest version of Assembly Studio 8x 4.0, which at the time of this release has not been officially released."
(from zelda.txt)

until then, not likely.

Jeremy will hopefully release the new version this week. It has been in development for at least a year, and can say (because I have been using it the whole time) that is quite excellent. Last I heard, it was basically done and all that was left was to create an installer. Maybe you should email him telling him how much you like the program and hint that you are excited to see the new version :)

One thing that I forgot to mention: at least half of the new features in Assembly Studio 8x were added as a direct result of the requirements for Zelda 86's development. Zelda 86 is a very complicated program, and new features were required to make it easier to develop. That said, it is safe to say that Assembly Studio 8x will make creating complicated programs such as Zelda 86 much easier than before.

Zelda 86 will not be ported to any other calculator. The game currently takes 36k for storage, plus 24k of work ram. None of the other calcs could handle it. Also, it is very dependant on grayscale and a 128x64 screen.

I brought home my friends 89 to put games on it. I put street fighter on it. In the readme it says to dowload Archive Utility from the link above that says it's my homepage. I ran the program. It asked for a password. I entered one, beacuse I didn't know what it was. Then the calculator crashed. There is only a black bar at the top of the screen. It won't let me do anything. If you have experienced thsi please e-mail me at : kjshumate@lycos.com I really need a fast reply because I have to give it to him tommorow and it's already 8:30.

Simply take out a battery, press and hold ' ( - ) ' and the ' ( ' and then put the battery in and let off the buttons after two to five seconds, if that doesent work try the same thing with the ' ) ' key, because I'm not quite sure which one it is. And finally if that doesent work, start praying that your friends really cool and won't make you fork over 120...

[2nd] + Right + Left + On will do the same trick (just a reset). Another thing for those TI-89 BASIC programmers out there... Try this:

Exec("4E424E75")

Hold ON and yank one of the batteries in the back.

Oh wait.

Uh oh...

You downloaded AU2. You'll have to get a copy of the AMS ROM, either 1.0 or 1.05, and reflash the calc to clean it out.

Note, if he has a hardware 2 calc, you'll only be able to get 1.05, as AU won't like AMS 2.0X

After that, go get AU3. It's far stabler, better, and has worked 100% for me since i put it on my calc. It baffles teachers and fellow students alike.

If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably eternally messed.

Oh, thanks. I didn't try to reflash the calc. I already tried to yank out the batteries holding the ON button. I already gave it to him. I told him to send it in to TI. I hope he didn't already. I'll try to reflash it and try those different button combinations.

I tried to reflash it and now it won't even turn on to what it was like when I first broke it. I guess he'll have to call 1-800-TICARES.

Re: Please help me!!!
Monkeyforx

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T PRESS (-) AND ) WHILE PUTTING THE BATTERY BACK IN! All this does is erase your calculator COMPLETELY. To fix ANY crash without losing data, push 2ND+Left+Right+On. If this doesn't work, simply open the back, pop out a battery, and put it back in without pushing any keys.

I learned about the 2ND+Left+Right+On while figuring out EXEC codes. It helps, since EXEC causes lots of crashes, and this makes it so I don't lose my games :-)
(Besides, it's a pain to get backups off your computer when they're over 200k, because you have to do it multiple times to get everything on and archived.)
