Sami Khawan Releases Beta PIXpand
Posted by Eric on 31 October 2000, 17:25 GMT

Sami Khawan, otherwise known as the Euro with the cool email address, has released a beta version of the PIXpand, a memory expander for the TI-82, TI-83(+), TI-85, TI-86, TI-89, and TI-92(+). The interesting part of the PIXpand is that it uses Playstation Memory cards as media. Get more information about this and his other nifty projects here.

i just finished building one with a friend. We used my old ti 83+ and it works %50 of the time. We have trouble receiving information from the card. We instaled teh setup right into teh calc too. We put four led's at teh bottom of the front of the calc, and instaled the port on the back, sticking out towards the top of the calc, its pretty slim even with teh new port on teh back. I now have a complete library of every ti 83+ game ever, not to mention a large collection of calculator videos. I only recomend people who know what they are doing build these thought, it took me, my friend and my friends dad(ex-marine, who worked his life building things from scematics). It was a tricky project but worth it.

I just hope that the final version will be available as an assembled package. I have a little interest in building electronic projects, but if it took an ex-marine to figure the thing out, i think i'm probably doomed. hopefully the final version will also be more reliable.

keep up the good work Sami!!

Hi doniguan,

It is a good news that people are trying the device. I would be grateful if you can give me more info on when it works and when it doesn't, in order to be able to fix the problem.

Do error occur in the middle of the transfer? Does the speed of the LED's sweep change? Does it sometimes pause and then continue flashing?

Sami

Hello I am trying to build this PIXpander and I can't seem to figure out what kind of capacitors are used in the circuit and what their voltage values should be. Also is there a pcb for PIXpand?

Okay, I have made a PCB for PIXPand but I can't test it out right now because I do not have access to a copy machine that I can make the PCB transfers with... I will post it on ticalc.org when it is tested and I'll reply back here with my results, if anyone here is still interested in this project. By the way, what ever happened to Sami Kwaham?

You could run a program such as an RPG game off it by having each file requested and then run one after another. Just have a standard list file name. Just call it... um... Hmm... Ah "FIRST". You request first and then run it. First can then request and recieve other files and run them. Just an idea. You could also have data files and request them. Please someone make an RPG that runs off of a memory card like that. :) And someone make a program that Requests a program named first from the memory card and downloads and runs it. Call it PSXSTART.
