Ports, Ports, and...More Ports?
Posted by Eric on 19 September 2000, 06:10 GMT

Welp, the ubiquitous Phoenix is at it again. In the past few days this popular shoot-em-up game has been ported to yet a few more platforms. You can now play Phoenix on all assembly-capable TI-8x/9x calculators. Anyway, you can now run along and grab the newly-released versions for the TI-82 and TI-83+.

Update (Eric): Dan Englender has released an updated version of Phoenix for the TI-83+. The first version was apparently having some troubles with the TI-Graph Link software.

Man PAD is the best programmer ever. He makes the best games for every calc. My 82, my 86, and my 89 all have his games on them. If it wasnt for him, Galaxian, and phoenix, I would still only have a 86.
EVERY SINGLE calc gamer out there should have his programs, they are the best, AND THEY ARE FOR EVERY CALC.

Pad is the best.

I'm not sure who is the better programmer really but I'd say that Jimmy Mardell is at least as good a programmer as Patrick Davidson. He programmed tetris, boulderdash, and sqrxz, and wrote a lot of great documentation like the 68k guide. I agree that Phoenix is awesome but I don't have any other of Davidson's programs for the 89. Maybe it's best not to choose who's the best programmer but be thankful we have so many great ones!

Hmm. You should try google.com, it's an awesome search engine. When I noticed that a dmoz bot deleted the scs.ticalc.org url I searched on it and found its new site...scs.calc.org. Anyone know why it moved? Kind of funny that ticalc announces when it adds a site but not when one is removed. It's almost censorship, though not quite the same. Ticalc's still the best site though, even if it has communist tendencies. =-)

No, you're not, as you would have discovered had you read this comment board before posting. Read above for the solution. Hopefully this error will be fixed soon!

It's just a problem in how it was assembled. There is a fixed version out now, or you can send it to VTI and then to your calc.

Unfortunately, your description of the problem is much too vague for anyone to give a meaningful answer. At the very least, you should at least mention whether you're using the Ion or MirageOS version.

Since this problem doesn't seem to be a common occurence it will be necessary to describe the steps needed to reproduce the error in order for it to be likely that anyone can fix it. I have tested the TI-85, TI-86, and TI-82 versions of the game repeatedly and observed no problems like this, and the 83+ porters have certainly done the same, so this isn't something that we know about now.

That information should first be E-Mailed to the person who made the 83+ port you're using (I won't be able to check it out myself, since I don't have an 83+) who will of course forward the information to me if it turns out to be a bug in the original code that I wrote.
