Screenshot Staff Starts Screenshotting Stuff
Posted by Nick on 13 August 2000, 22:30 GMT

Screenshot stuff is go! Thanks to all the people who sent in applications. About thirty applied; I accepted eleven. Here's the current screenshot staff. This could grow or shrink as time goes on, and if you applied and didn't make it now your application will still be considered.
The current roster:

Once again, thanks very much to everyone who applied. I appreciate your enthusiasm very much. Now let's get to work! :)

Update (Nick): Oops! Forgot to mention that you can now upload your (black and white, in .gif form) screenshots using our file upload form.

Update (Eric): Sorry about the lateness with getting back on the review staff applicants and their email addresses. We should have that up soon...

Update (Andy): Contrary to comments on the board, please do not re-upload files via the upload form for the sole purpose of including screenshots. Steve's job is already time-consuming as it is. Either leave screenshotting to the screenshot staff or wait until your next release. Additionally, animated screenshots should not be uploaded via the file upload form. We hope to add that ability real-soon(tm).

Darn!

There goes my chance to tell all my friends that my new e-mail is myname@ss.ticalc.org.

I can't live with this pain.

I feel your pain, man. I wasn't picked either. Once I went to TI-Calc's homepage and saw all those red icons I knew I wasn't picked. But maybe if they need to add more people to the staff, I'll get on it then.

It would've looked so great to have that in my college applications...

My working at ticalc.org had absolutely _nothing_ to do with my getting into college... you'd be surprised how little it matters.

Grades, extracurriculars, teacher recommendations.

heh, ive screenshotted like tons of your progs ben. Some are quite nice. it would be better if you didn't have title screens and credit screens and copyright screens becuase it will save lots of time.

This screen shoting idea is good. I hope it goes well... it will be a great improvment to the site.

One suggestion that may make the site even better.... a rating system next to the archived file....something like a star rating system.... i.e. 5 star awesome 4 star damn good.... 3 star pretty good... 2 star okay....1 star lame....0 star...sucks major donkey ass.

How hard would this be? Does anyone else think this would be worth while? I would be willing to do this for as many 89 & 86 programs as possible.

Anyone?

Um, join the review staff. Write reviews. Then, you can click on the program icon to read said reviews.

Actually, I, on a regular basis, disagree with what the reviewer had to say, and the score that was given to the program. I think that a user rating system (where someone who downloads the prog and clicks a specific number of stars) would be a great idea, and would only make your dbase a little larger, from the 3(?) added columns... Just my thoughts on the matter.

Screenshots, in their abundance, this is admirable of ticalc. I'm glad Andy's promise of a "facility that eases the hardship associated with screenshots included within archives" has come early.

(My posts are not to be tossed aside lightly. They should be thrown with great force.)

Well, we could, but I imagine that's a little ways off. Also, those shots would be huge.

That wouldn't take very long, but it's really a non-issue... after all, everyone knows what (for example) vti looks like. :p

I'm more concerned with the calc programs themselves at the moment.

It's my nickname. My real name is Alejandro, and my friends called me Al for a while. But then one of them started calling me Alf, and at first I didn't like it, but it grew on me.

I hate .GIF files! My paint program can't save pictures as .GIF's!

Get a better program, then! =) (I suggest Irfanview... it's freeware. Otherwise there's ACDSee and that's shareware) Besides, if we saved these things as mspaint compatible .bmp files, do you have any idea how long the screenshots would take to load... each? At 64K per shot, people with modems at or below 56K could test a program out faster by downloading it =P

So where can I get these "better programs" of yours? I'd like to convert a few .bmp screenshots to .gif.

I don't think the 83+ staff is dumb, just lazy, like the programmers who don't put AxesOff commands in their programs.
