Zeljko Juric Releases Exec Maker v1.0, Patrick Davidson and Phoenix v7.0
Posted by Nick on 1 August 2000, 05:55 GMT

My surgery went just fine (as "fine," by most standards, as exhaustive bone-cutting surgery can possibly be) and I'm quite far down the road to recovery. With that in mind, here's some crazy "news" of a "calculator-related" nature:

The ueber-programmer and A89 superstar known currently as Zeljko Juric has given rise to another wonderful utility for the 89 and the 92 Plus called Exec Maker v1.0. This nifty doodle of a program allows the casual observer to convert assembly routines (short little snippets) for use as Exec() statements in BASIC programs. This allows BASIC programmers a world of freedom in their programming, as ASM becomes far more accessible to them. Download this program: it's wonderful what Zeljko has put out in recent months. Huzzah!

More, um, stuff! The delicious Patrick Davidson has released yet another copy of that program he does - what's its name again... i forgot... OH YEAH! "Phoenix!" You heard of it? I certainly haven't, despite the fact that I've only written eight billion and three news items on it already. You can download Phoenix v7.0 for the 89, the 92, and the 92 Plus. I just finished downloading Windows 2000 Service Pack 1, so now I can view the documentation and see what's new.

Hrm, looks interesting. The delicious Patrick seems to have removed all copyright restrictions (which I think is a good thing), and many, many various bugfixes and optimizations that make his assembly skills truly "ph34rable." Smaller level sizes and that sort of stuff. Grab this update: it can only mean a world of good. :)

Isn't uber spelled u-b-e-r instead of u-e-b-e-r?

Either "ueber" or "uber" with an umulaut over the u. Since I lack the ability to do such a thing (read: I'm a lazy person), I wrote "ueber."

Shoot me.

actually it's spelled über, but since the american keyboard can't do the "ü" (unless you do an alt-keypad combination) you use "ue"

Actually, if you were using a Mac, you wouldn't need to memorize the Alt+keypad (or open some lame character map program, either). Just hit option u for that umlaut, baby!

Ahhh....... but what about doing ¼, ½, ¾, Þ, •, º, ¹, ², ³, ÷, ¤, ‰, ª, ù, ú, þ, Å, ect... {I am not 100‰ sure that you can't do any of these using the option key, but I am sure that at least a few can't be done.... I don't want to dig up the table that I made at school one day [This was the most productive thing I could during that period that day] that has all of the keys and their respective symbols using the option key}.....

mac users are fine, I just don't like macs...

It's eleet speak for fear.

ph = f
4 = a
3 = e
1 = i or l
0 = o
7 = t

and a few other weird things like x0r. What you said in eleet speak would be:

wh47 d4 h311 d03z ph34r m33n?

To quote the i.t.o FAQ:
ROMs are illegal to distribute because it's the copyrighted code of Texas Instruments.

Does that answer your question? (Oh, btw, you *can* get them from TI...scraft@ti.com.)

You can get the latest AMS version at http://www.ti.com/calc/flash/89.htm
However... if you're sure you want a version earliar than 2.05, you'll need to turn elsewhere.

I don't think that there's any reason to have 2.03 or 2.04 when you could have 2.05. TI fixed a serious bug having to do with archived functions in version 2.05, and 2.05 is not a big upgrade from 2.04, so it doesn't make very many programs incompatible like previous ROM upgrades did. In fact, I am not aware of any programs that run on 2.03 or 2.04 but not on 2.05. (there may be some, but there aren't very many)

Yes the're is!!! I have a HW2 TI-89 & I upgraded to 2.05 then went back to 2.04 because HW2 Patch didn't work on it, therefor I couldn't load an asm shell, therefor no ASM games work. Also HW1 users don't get that extra mem that MaxMem gives them, and I have never gotten a "Protected Memory Violation", which I beleve was never there in the first place. If someone emails me, I will give them the UPGRADE vesion of AMS 2.03 or 2.04.

Oh... Also, ASM Programs don't work (unless they are nostub). Another thing, Doors OS I think does work, but it just plain sucks right now on the new AMS's.

Yes, on Doors, with AMS 2.05, HW1, it freezes in the Explorer (you can get out by sto-> + on), but all nostub programs work perfectly.
