TI Releases AMS 2.05 and Other FLASH Applications
Posted by Eric on 25 July 2000, 18:55 GMT

Michael Michaelson sends the news that TI has released AMS 2.05 for the TI-89 and TI-92+. This new rom version apparently fixes some memory bugs while viewing locked or archived programs.

Other FLASH applications such as Finance (free), Statistics with List Editor v1.01 (free), Cabri Geometry v2.02($30), and Geometer's Sketchpad® v1.02($30) have also been released.

Download all these applications for the TI-89 and TI-92+.

I'm sure people will be able to handle the few problems that come with bugfixes in a mature and constructive manner. Yeah right... this is the TI community we're talking about.

We (I) appreciate TI's work on their calculators. However I think that new AMS versions should have additional features (like the cool archive recovery) and not stupid limitations as the HW1 half archive limit or the 8/24kb ASM HW1 software limit. And I won't talk about compatibitily issues or HW2 hardware ASM limit because that's a more delicated task.

But those limitations are what makes us get angry with TI. They are already broken, so I really don't understand why TI still 'feature' them in every new AMS version. As we always say, we don't want to crack TI Apps, but using our quality software in our calcs. So putting stupid restrictions really makes us mad.

That's it.

Thank you, and I mean it. I sincerely appreciate being able to see your thoughts in a constructive manner. Intelligent people like you are what we need more of. My complaint is only with people who complain to complain without seeing the positives, as well as questioning the motives of a company, as if it were out to get them. Keep being one of the good ones.

Yes. I really don’t see why TI puts restrictions like that on the calculator, especially when they know people will just find a way to bypass them anyway. All it does is annoy everyone.

I haven't even had time to send v2.04 to VTI yet, and now there's a 2.05...

Also... Shouldn't you put a message that explains that "you" (ticalc.org) take no responsibility for any damage (etc..) done by installing this AMS. You always have done that and you might want to.
Thanks again!

Yay! Another AMS...I guess this means more work for ASM game coders and shell coders, that is if they are willing to work with AMS 2.05. I like my TI-89 a lot, but when it comes to updating AMS, it gets confusing and takes too long to just sit there and flash my calc. Some of the cooler games for 89 don't work on the new AMS 2.0x, for example Sonic MisAdventures and Super Mario...also I can't get Picture Viewer 1.3 to work either. I know they work on AMS 1.00, but I'd rather not flash my calc to 1.00 because I don't like 1.00. Can anybody do something about this?

I don't think the situation is that bad at all. I had no problems running Super Mario Quest on either 2.04 or 2.05 under Universal OS.

You have to make sure you have the special 2.0x version of SMQ. The older one doesn't work.

I just downloaded this ROM and tested it under VTI. Compatibility seems to be about the same as with 2.04; almost everything works under Universal OS, and most programs work under TEOS.

Let's see:
I don't know what the "improvement" in Flash App management is, but Finance (which, by the way, seems EXACTLY like the 83 version) shows up in the mode->Split 1 App menu.
The "archived program bug" IS fixed.
MaxMem says "Not a HW1 2.01/2.03/2.04 calculator"
My nostub programs (I swore off of kernals a while ago because the often made the math stuff malfunction) work perfectly.

It shouldn't be too long, I doubt TI actually changed anything to prevent MaxMem from working. MaxMem is smart, it doesn't install itself on AMS versions it doesn't know about, because there is a small chance that it could mess up the entire calculator beyond what a reset could repair.

Re: Re: Re: TI Releases AMS 2.05 and Other FLASH Applications

My guess would be that you can't use DoorsOS without HW 2 Patch, and you can't install HW 2 Patch because the author wants to make sure it still works on any new AMS versions TI comes out with.
