Phoenix v7.0a (Experimental)
Posted by Nick on 10 June 2000, 05:05 GMT

Patrick Davidson has done stuff to his space shooter, Phoenix, and updated it to v7.0a. To quote the nectareous Patrick on his site: "This version includes new enemies, better collision detection, changes to ships' special characteristics, and various optimizations." It also includes the addition of a final mega-boss, removal of the Ship III penalty, and the addition of names to the individual ships. You can snag yourself a copy for the 89, the 92 (Fargo II), and the 92 Plus. It should be the final version, if all the bugs are smoothed out. This is an experimental version, but rumor has it that it should work fine.

Phoenix works perfectly...
Zelda 89 works perfectly under ams2.04 !!! other tests I made:
Pokemon: it gives protected memory violation, after selecting in the menues the option of start game(in black and white or grayscale). It didn't crash the calc, just turned the contrast to max.But you can adjust it, then continue without reseting. Is that a magical feature of unios? or the new ams2.04?

Mario92: it says "util lib not found" with or without it in the main folder...!

Sft2: it says adress error, but didn't crashed!

And now for the most important question: "Does it work on AMS 2.04?"

All kidding aside, Phoenix is great, I hope that Patrick's skills carry over to his next project (teehee) and makes another classic!

it can work fine using unios... I suppose. Anyway if it's a nonstub program, you don't need to worry about rom version...I suppose again...because when you run tezxas, then the cursor "tilts" very quickly, I don't know if it's a bug or what.

Well, I just downloaded it, it needs a shell, with unios it seems to work perfectly.(ams2.04)

Phoenix v7.0 is the best ever! I also think that it is also a bit faster. I like the couple of extra levels that were added in. Great job Patrick!

Also i think if you dont have any money it just goes to the next level without going to the shop.

Great job on another release of Phoenix, which I still think is better than every other game combined. Just one question... I know in a previous version that I downloaded, there was an inverted mode, which was awesome, except that if you went over to the very bottom right corner of the screen, all your health went down instantly. Does this version fix that?

I love pheonix, but has anyone ever worn out their 2nd button from playing Pheonix to much?

Is ther any chance this would happen?

Would TI replace it for free?

I haven't tried 7.0 out a whole lot, but I have used all of the other versions a ton. I think one thing that could be added is a cash display during the game (not just in the shop).

Whenever it needs it to maintain it's status as a fun game, which will be never. Nothing can surpass Phoenix. Who needs grayscale?

First of all, I wuold just like to say wow. Second, It seems that on the TI-89 the top line of the display is cut off. Second, I though v.6 was intented to be the last one. (Not that I mind, I love the improvements.). Third, I would just like to brag. I finally beat it on Expert after making it to the last level three times and dying there. My only complaint is that the third to last "level set" (the one with the big spinning wheels that come on one at a time and shoot large circles at you) seems to be significantly easier in this version than the other versions. Or maybe it's just me. Also, don't say I just got lucky. I did it using only the quadruple cannon with rapidfire and the original ship.
