Tanks v0.53, PANG v1.01, SolarStriker v1.00 Pre-Final
Posted by Nick on 29 May 2000, 02:39 GMT

Tanks v0.53As usual, there have been a plethora of new releases of nectareous things this weekend, so I'll be covering a lot in this one:

Tanks v0.53, by Andy Dufilie, is a game like (duh) Scorched Earth, Worms, or the classic Tanks. There's not much else to say about this one except a job well done - the graphics are great (see screenshot) and it looked essentially bug-free when I tried it out.

A new TSE Compiler for the TI-83/TI-83 Plus shell has been released by Alex Roper. It features a setup program, multiple windows, a .chm help file, and the obligatory bug fixes.

Loving it! Combes "eXor" Bertrand has released PANG v1.01 for the 89 and the 92 Plus. Thanks to the ever-so-friendly Babelfish, you now know that new features include bugfixes on the display and the keyboard. A new version is in the works that keeps the balls inside the 89's viewing display.

Everybody's favorite game, SolarStriker v1.00 Pre-Final (for the 89, 92 [Fargo II], and 92 Plus), has been unleashed. Authored by Benoit Scherrer and Brian Tribondeau, new features for this piece of entertainment include much code optimization and (I think) link play (my French isn't very good *g*). Also, a source code release has taken place.

Many other great things have been released in the past two days. You can check the latest updates list for more information.

hw2's are better since they are faster and with the new OS's greyscale works so hw2's are much better.

maxmem = gives HW1 users full 720k of archive memory

hw2patch = necessary for hw2 users to even be able to run most programs, grayscale on some programs (Tetris) don't work (at least Im guessing not, since it wouldn't work with other "fixes" for grayscale on hw2)

so as I see it, HW2s have more deficiencies than a HW1 calc

from ti.com faq:
(explaining differences between HW1 and HW2)

Altered the management of the user portion of the Flash
ROM. You will recognize this update only when the
Advanced Mathematics Software Version 2.0 operating
system is installed. With hardware version 2.0 and the 2.0
operating system, you have more user archive space while
the total amount of Flash ROM is unchanged.

Once a user has loaded the 2.0 operating system and a
few applications, the hardware version 2.0 and the original
TI-89 are practically the same. This scenario is expected
for most users in the future as many great application
ideas are floating around.

Slightly increased the processor speed from about 10 MHz
to about 12 MHz.

HW2's would be awesome, because they support a lot of new features like better processor speed (like he said ^) and stuff... only problem being they crash so much having games on them isn't worth the trouble.

FINALLY!!! I am so happy to see an ASM version of Tanks! I've been waiting so long for this. I loved the old Gorrilas game back in the day, I loved the original Tanks... I really loved Scorched Earth... so much in fact that I actually registered it--only to get the internet a few years later and find it all over the net... Anyway, I love the new ASM version, it's great. all I'd add is a store like on Scorch... Ya know, lots of cool weapons that blow huge amounts of terrain away... stuff like that. I think the concept of winning money for not getting hit is kinda...well... dumb, but it's still a great game.

Pang...still an addictive game... can't get enough of it...

Solar Striker... well, I loved the demo, but I can't get this one to work... I'll try again later... I probably forgot to put a certian file on the calc...

I have HW2 AMS 2.03 with Doors .96 and I archived Solar, and all of the levels (including Phoenix) and the game was F***ING AWESOME! It is just like Airofighters (aireofighters, something like that, dont tell me i spelt it wrong) Scrolling background(s), options, everything. I didnt even pay attention to how big it was becuase I was able to archive everything, I hate to say this, but I like Solar Striker better than Phoenix! Good job

You need to get money for not being hit.. otherwise you would not be able to make any comeback... if you did not have enough power to make it to the other person's tank, they would just be able to shoot you like fish in a barrel.

Why would people develop games if they don't even like what they're programming? I personally can't wait to play the game I'm working on right now ;)

Does anyone know of a place where I can get a tank version for my PC? I remembered playing tank all the time, the best version was "super blaster", there was a clowd and when you shot it, it would get pissed and kill you. I searched all over the net but couldn't find one good version of tanks, so any help is greatly appreciated.
