When will Ion support ti-82 emulation?

the Ti-86 accomplishes this with the ti82, ti83, & ti85. So it should be fairly easy to add to ion the ability to emulate ti-82 ash & crash programs. w/out converting them on the computer.

I think it might negate Ion's current strategy of being a small-sized shell, with /optional/ features (in the form of modules). Adding CRASH/ASH emulation would probably just take up too much mem for most users. But maybe someone could write a module... ;)
Besides, haven't most of the good 82 games been ported to Ion yet?

My god I'm so sick of this crap. You go to tialc.org and every day their are about 4 if not more new programs for the 83 and the 83 plus mean while I'm lucky if their is one good program for the 82 in a month. Then after all this it is still not enough I don't know how many times I've heard that one sentence "when will the 82 finally be emulated on the 83" like their is something special about all you 83 users that some how us 82 users are not entitled to just because our calculator is a few years older then yours. In the future I would greatly suggest that you take it from an 82 user perspective because I know the day will come when the 83s become unused and put away as what is happening with the 82s and that is the day when I'll sit back in my chair and say "HA I WIN"

Oh, stop your @#$%^ing. Ever seen a news item featuring an awesome for the TI-85 in the last year? There have been more 82 articles than 85 articles in the last few years... so whenever you get this '82 revolution' surge, think of those poor 85 users (I would know, even though I don't have one, I'm forced to listen to my friend whining 24/7 that he doesn't have any decent programs for the 85)...

You got a point, I made a Ti-85 program that was News Worthy and it was reffused a new article because "It's not in the interest of the majority"


Personally, I don't care if has to interest at least 90% of the site users. When something is worth a news item, it damn strait should get one.

Of course I meant an 85 revolution would come I just have no idea when that time will come. But then again what the heck am I talking about the 82 and 85 are going to slowly disappear and everyone is going to go to the new calcs except the few stubbern people like my self... Not to mention if you take out your great new calculator right now and times my last comment multiply it by 4. Then you'll have a perfect explanation of what the 86 users are (if you get the drift)

There is one obvious reason why the 82 and 85 are dissapearing: they are technologically inferior to the 83 and 86. The only reason why people arent making magickal new and wonderful programs for these platforms is because they realize what you wont. I assure you there will be no 82 or 85 revolutions but there will on the other hand be people a few years from now complaining how there arent any new programs for the 83s and 86s because those !#@$ new 84s and 87s (or whatever the numbers are) are getting all the attention.

You obviously haven't seen CrASH. When you select an item, the selection *moves* down, not jumps down like all other shells, but it MOVES down!

CrASH also added asm support to a TI82 with no built in asm...

(but Ion did have that compile for 2 calculators feature, as well as have ZGFXL and ZLIB built in...)

Well, Crash wasn't the first shell to accomplish 82 asm. OShell and Ash did that simultaneously in the summer of 1997. The Crash authors took those shells and improved upon them.

OS-82 was released three (four?) days before Ash.

NOT! Aaron Curtis is much better, because YAS is much better than ION.

Uhm... since the shells are for two completely different calculators, that's a rather weird conclusion.

That's like saying DoorsOS is better than ZShell because it's coded for a "better" calculator. You simply can't compare the two.

Not really. YAS just has so much more features, and just because the 83 is inferior doesn't mean you can't compare shells. Off course it is an excellent excuse for Ion's simplicity, but a reason to call Joe the best shell programmer it is not.

you can't compare shells of different calcs thats like comparing apples to oranges. try comparing ICE to ION or TSE to ION but not YAS!

Why? Just because the 86 has more potential doesn't mean you don't have to code for those extra functions? Off course it is not a comparison between equals, but enough to justify that YAS is better.

the reason YAS has so "cool" features was because the 86 has so much more memory then the 83. the whole point of ION was to deliver a small but sufficant shell that could load asm files that was all. the point of YAS was to allow the user to customize the shell to the needs of the user.

I know that, and I think it's enough to justify saying that Aaron Curtis is a better shell programmer. Period.

I can compare apples and oranges. I like oranges, but not apples. Comparing apples and TI-83 shells, now that's different.

Exactly. I mean, no one is saying: ,,You can't say Quake3 is better than Wolf3D because Quake3 is for Windows and Wolf3D is for DOS!'' (Off course, we should not take into account that Windows is inferior to DOS, but it proves my point).
