Worms 89 by Jean-Christophe Budin
Posted by Nick on 14 May 2000, 17:16 GMT

Worms 89After this program all but dominated the most recent top downloads list, I checked it out and I realized that it really does deserve a mention.

Worms 89, masterminded by Jean-Christophe Budin, is very similar to the classic game Worms or Worms: Armageddon for the Playstation/PC. If you've ever played Tanks or Scorched Earth, you'll enjoy this game much more. In it, you have to control a team of worms that attempts to blow the heck out of another team of worms. It's very challenging and fun: you should play it as soon as possible.

Hey great game, I liked it a lot. But I am just wondering, is the author going to release a version so it works under the Doors Explorer, since I hate accessing the Varlink menu.

Yea Ive always liked using the explorer too, Worms is great, but it is a little confusing to understand. When some of the button figurations are fixed it will be a lot better, and maybe its just VTI but everytime you press a button the screen refreshes, maybe that could be an improvement. And since im going on about improvements it would be a lot nicer if the worms would move, (maybe they do but i cant figure out how to make them do it) Well on the subject of worms if anyone ever plays online look for me in in the Worms 2 us2 server!

once youve hit escape, hit enter to confirm the worm selection, then you can move, but only a limited distance. All you worms fans should really get Worms: Armageddon, it kicks ass.

Interesting game, but it could use more documentation. It's disturbing how such great games are always the ones with the least documentation while the pettiest 'Quadratic Equation Solver!!!' has n pages of documentation :)

I don't understand why this game is so great, all I could do with it was make the screen turn left or right, I tried all the buttons but nothing happend, is it a two player game? Anyway I'll keep tampering with it untill I get it :) I know if it is this famous it must do something really fun!

You might want to read the readme file. It says it's a two-player game.

I second that. This is a fun game on the PC, makes me wish I had an 89.

Maybe, if it came with source. I don't know HOW important the screen size it. But, it may not have to be a scaled down version.

Well, if anyone would like to continue working on my "Unfinished Worms Game" for the TI-86, it's in the archives... :-)

Although I modelled my version on Worms 2 rather than the original Worms - looking at the TI-89 version, I think the original is probably more appropriate for the small screen of a calculator.

Your grammar's kinda wrong... it sounds as if YOU dominated the top-downloads list instead of Worms...

Of course if it really was you who dominated the list, then by all means let me know... :-P

Sounds better now... although it's WAY more interesting if YOU dominated the list. Imagine having a person, rather than a file, dominate the list...

Or not. I'll be quiet now. :-)

You should know there are weekly toplists for both authors and files. (And I dominate both at the moment :-).)

I agree that it'd be cool if Nick dominated the list, for all his news and the stuff he does for ticalc.org.

I'd better be quiet, too, now. Or I'll get flamed.

BAHAHAHA
right. :)

I wish I could "dominate" the art (yes, it's an art :P) of getting a girlfriend.

Sucks.

--BlueCalx

PS: I "dominate" as far as posting news items and posting comments. Since the new site came out, I've posted about 210 comments and 180 news items. I think.

I read this one as well.

Nick's real response was something like:

Apple gets thrown onto ground, smashing into at least 1.7 pieces.

"You'll rue the day you screwed with me.. you'll rue the <expletive> day!!" - He actually said 'expletive', for added effect.

Later that night, Nick turned his computer on and wrote the nastiest article in the world. He included how the girls were really.. smelly.. and, umm, were destined to be shop girls in a large factory. And he posted it on here. Where the girls would never come. And to this day, they've never been the same.. ;-)

wheeeee - j/k of course :)

I just figured out how NickD gets so many comments. He registers new users and then after he posts a news article he hurries up and posts "first comment!@#$!@" then deletes the users.

ticalc.org should have a warning on the comment boards saying: Do Not post comment when you are giddy.
