Jass for CrASH v1.0 Released
Posted by Nick on 11 May 2000, 02:25 GMT

Vasantha Crabb has released Jass for CrASH v1.0. This program, unlike its slightly failed predecessor, has all the bugs fixed in it and everything should be hunky-dory now.

For those of you who don't know, Jass is a program for CrASH that runs OS-82 and Ash v2.0 programs. This should have very good emulation, and it's definitely worth checking out not only for the greatness of its code but also for the few games that lacked a place in the spotlight due to their being on less "popular" shells.

I was talking with Andy on the phone just the other day, thinking that it would be really cool to see this again, and it's great that it's popped up again for all us older calculator addicts to feast on.

Cool. Too bad the only person I know with an 82 has an old 82...its memory resets if you drop it :(

That, and somehow I suspect there'll be more great shell news coming later this month.

Does anyone know if this can be done on the TI-83 so all SOS games run in Ion. I think it would be cool, but there was probably some technical reason for Joe not to include it when he first released Ion. Oh well.

I don't own a Ti-83 but I'm sure it can be done, look at the Ti-83plus they have a shell that emulates Ion programs, soon it will probably emulate other programs such as SOS, and Ashell.

I redesigned my webpage over the weekend, and got rid of the adds, feel free to drop by and let me know what you think of the new design.

A few replies:

* This is old news!

* Nick, haven't you used "hunky-dory" before?

* ION 82 anyone?

You should try out my password program, the Latest version 4.2 lets you take batteries out while it protected without losing memory.

Oh, and when it's locked your name is all over the screen (ability to add that was added in v4.1)

Don't forget to nominate it for program of the month!

hehehe ;)

- Three days old. I have AP tests quite hard as of recent, and I'm not even a third of the way done with them yet.

- Yes.

It is my understanding that the TI-82 is very simililar to the TI-83 in that they have the same processor, screen size, and memory capacity. Using emulation technology similar to that used in Jass for CrASH that emulated earlier shells for the TI-82, would it be possible to develop programs that would emulate shells for the TI-83 such as SOS or ION for the TI-82?

How about a TI82 compatible ION include file that compiles for CrASH? Would that work?

Why doesn't some one just make a program that converts programs from one calculator to the other like how hard could that be... It would throw the entire idea of having to port would be gone and programs could spend more time making new programs. Not to mention why are their only like 11 comments in here is their that few people that own a 82 like come on it is not that bad of a calculator.

The reason why is because of the different ROM's for different calculators, for example the 86 ROM has more functions than say, the 82... so if you try to emulate a program written for the 86 on an 82, you get random execution of code, which is not good... and the screen size is different... the idea for JASS was really good, cause it brings a mix of all the shells together... which is done by simply patching certain memory addresses with the stuff that it needs... another thing is that the ROM cannot be written to... so you cant just patch it... (I wish we could though...)
hope you find this informative... I will be releasing a new shell that is somewhat like a windows format for the 82, I'll try my best to get it out by this summer, but with AP's and Finals coming up, I dont know if I can promise you anything...
