With regards to the speed: I do not think that this network has to have any significant speed. They only mention the TI-83+ in the announcement, and the TI-83+ is limited to slow transfers.

shouldn't matter what the speed of the calc is...
just build an external nic. make an asic with an arm7 or something, give a nice uart block compatible with the link port & a bluetooth block. put all the routing & network code onto the asic and the calc doesn't have much to deal with. fun wireless network for the whole family

ummmmm.... the speed of the calculator has everything to do with it... if the calculator can't process the data coming in through that little jack in the bottom fast enough.. it loses major amounts of the data, not to mention it might overload the processor and crash it...

Hey, the 68K calcs can use TIOS routines to run at 19600 bps on the standard link protocol, and I suspect that would be a higher number using a simpler serial protocol.

Um...make that 19200. It's early. :-)

Well The 83+ might suck at high speed transfers, but who the hell wants one of those anyway? Ti-89!

it'd be better if TI made the network work with ALL flash-based calcs instead of just the 83+....

It is rather dissapointing that TI only meantioned the 83+ calc. Although I highly thing that more calcs will be supported. My guess is that they will either make the 'Network' software into an APP, or built into the next release of the OS. If we're lucky, they'll do both!

I would not be surprised to see the software released on all of TI's Flash-capable calculators, although for network simplicity it would probably be limited to only one model of calculator on the classroom network at one time.

OH MY GOD!! This may let teachers delete your games even more easily! Think of it: a calculator under control of the teacher....not too good for the student game player. Good thing my school is almost 8 years behind the times....*sigh* computer class here was just typing class.

I thought nothing could be worse than neutered Visual C++ on pentium 60's and a teacher who coufuses VB and VC. I was wrong!

Makes me glad my school owns all 82s (and a few 81s) and I own an 86...
