Posted by Steve on 11 April 2000, 17:43 GMT

Thomas Nussbaumer has released version 2.0 of TI-Chess. Among the new features are new graphical menus, multiple save slots, noticable speed increases, the addition of new skill levels, more rule options and more. You can get a copy for the 89 and the 92 Plus.

I've just uploaded TI-Chess v2.01 which fixes 2 bugs which were reported too late. Additionally the DOORS OS builds are added again, because I cannot prevent people from building and distributing their own DOORS versions. This way I can add at least a warning about problems with the DOORS builds in the readme.txt file.
Depending on the guys at TICALC it will be available in the next few days or if you can't wait just download it from the TI-Chess Homepage at http://members.xoom.com/tnussb2/

Does this game have an AI? Is it comparable to say the chessmaster games?

Thanks,
Rob

Yes, it does have an AI that you can play against. Other than that it's not really like ChessMaster. I haven't seen what the "Train your brain" thing is yet, but it might be similar to some of CM's stuff.

The train your brain is really cool, it basically makes you think about how to checkmate people...

Would it be totally impossible to make a chess game with an AI for the 83+? Is it really THAT slow?!?

Since there is a C development environment available on the TI-83+ it shouldn't be that complicated to port TI-Chess to the TI-83+. I have no experience with the TI-83+ C environment, but if there is someone out which can do the port: Just mail me!
BTW: I don't think the TI-83+ is too slow. There are chess games for the Gameboy which uses the same CPU.

"Try" being the key word in that sentence. Dammmmnnn... the AI is good. Then again, I suck at chess :).
