Posted by Nick on 2 April 2000, 05:41 GMT

The voting page for the March 2000 POTM is now available. Good luck to all those nominated. Only one nominee can be selected this month.

Also, the results for the February 2000 POTM are now available. Sorry for the delay in getting this out. Congratulations to this month's winners; you can get an animated screenshot of your program by emailing me.

I believe it was there before, and the system has (finally!) been changed to prevent programs from sweeping the vote multiple months in a row for minor updates. . .

OK, April Fools, I'm calling your bluff this time. . . I mean, there's no way in hell that something like Ion86 could beat a math suite, a level editor, AND source code combined. . . not to mention "chicken shoot" and "classic text adventures"

I may not be too bright, but you're not fooling anyone this time around. There's no way it's getting past me!

Wait a sec. . . it says April 2 -- See, Nick's even dumber than I thought, posting April Fools' jokes on April 2. . . hahaha LOL ROTFL. Talk about a total idiot. . .

I guess the people who voted for Ion86 never have used it.

But if we spread the word, a lot of people will vote for nibbles arcade.

i don't know... first of all you can only get the 83ers to vote, second of all a lot of them don't like it (thought it was too slow, but i don't know since i don't have an 83(+)), third of all how are you going to contact most of them? Bulk e-mail?

Just offering my two cents... flames can be directed to stevecase@aol.com

> BASIC V ASM.... hmmmm.

First of all, leave this out of any comparison - you should judge the games by the game, not by the platform. Yes, Zelda is better due to the fact that it is in ASM, but it should not be considered better on that basis. Don't try to get sympathy.

> Arcade Classic V Cult RPG.... hmmmm.

So, if you had to chose, would you rather play Nibbles Classic or Zelda for the rest of your life? Once again, take the GAME itself into acount, not these other factors.

> Full Game V Demo.... hmmmm.

Regardless, I find the Zelda demo one heck of a lot more fun than the full Nibbles Arcade.

> It seems Zelda /is/ going to win :(

Yes, but Zelda is going to win because, disregarding everything else, Zelda is just plain more fun in the minds of the most people. Would you prefer Pong over Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament simply because Pong is written in an older language, Pong was popular in its day, and because Pong doesn't have any minor little glitches that will be patched later? Nope.

Don't get me wrong, Zelda is very promising. However
a) It is very basic gameplay wise. Walk around killing monsters and open the right doors with your keys. There is no plot and puzzles like in /real/ Zelda
b) Nibbles Arcade hasn't got a chance as people won't see past Zelda's name. Period.

Yeah, that and the fact that anyone can make one now. I think that's why Nick said that they CAN get a screenshot by emailing him, not that they SHOULD or MUST =)

True (about the can/should thing)... and besides, anyone can just copy the "ticalc.org POTM" words at the bottom and add them to all the frames...

I believe "Cold" in "Cold Fusion" actually means "room temperature", but I'm no pro at this experimental physics :)
So really it's "Warm Fusion" :)
