Changes in the Reviews System
Posted by Eric on 11 March 2000, 23:37 GMT
We're excited to roll out a spiffy brand-new feature here on ticalc.org. Our Reviews section have now been further integrated into our Archives, and you can now read program reviews directly on the fileinfo pages. This way you can find out all pertinent information about a file on a single page. On a related note, our Reviews section is always looking for more qualified reviews, so if you think you've got the stuff to make it on our Reviews staff, feel free to fill out an application.

Hmm... I have an idea. You might already do this, cause featured programs are always the best anyway, but maybe you should always write reviews for featured programs. Just to give them something of their own... featured progs never seem to get much except recognition.

My profound apologies for using the comment board in place of e-mail [again]. But, I do have a good suggestion for the site. While pondering possible solutions to the comment board reply load time problem I came up with something that could work:
After a certain number of comments, allow the user to "view next 20 comments" or something along those lines. You could pop-up the next 20 comments into a new window so the user could view the whole board at once but not have to deal with load time problems. Although you would have to put "comments 20-40" or something like that at the top of every page, I think it could work. Of course there is the issue of whether to count individual comments or comment strings. And there is the question of people liking or hating this possible feature. The beauty of the idea is that you could let the user choose whether or not they wanted this option in the preferences and how many comments they would like a new page to be offered after.
I could be offering a completely stupid solution: you tell me.
