Geometer's Sketchpad For the 92 Plus
Posted by Nick on 4 March 2000, 21:24 GMT
In another attempt to justify the existence of the 92 Plus, TI has released The Geometer's Sketchpad for the 92 Plus. This only works for AMS v2.03 and it is only released for the 92 Plus. It lets you create and analyze mathematical models and geometric diagrams. It is included in the purchase price of the TI-92 Plus (re: it's free). This can be a fantastic program for anyone who is doing geometry, but ironically, nobody in a geometry class (re: high school sophomores) would drop $160-180 on a TI-92 Plus. Download it from this page.

Just thought I'd mention that this is a *very* nice application. Much better than the other cabri app. Even if you're not in geometry, or don't like geometry, I'd suggest giving it a download just to see how it is (since it is free and all...).

Why in the Hell doesn't (won't!!!) TI realease a nifty free app. like this for the 89? I shelled out $135 bucks for that and I can't even draw on the damn thing!!! Jeez, I shoulda bought a freakin' Game Gear (as the 92 is called @ my school), they get all the cool stuff!!!

I agree that it is a good program, but I don't see any practical uses for any geometry class. Any high school geometry class wouldn't go into significant depth where the program comes in handy. I have only used geometry programs when I am doing math at contest levels. Anything my high school would do regarding this could be avoided because the teachers *love* cabri geometry on the computer.
I do have one question: TI has only included so much memory for flash apps etc. Is this amount of memory limited by the processor's capabilities? If not, why don't they sell better plus modules? I tried installing the sketchpad as well as the list program, but only had room for one. What is the point in only being able to have one flash application at a time if they offer several free ones?

I think, screen of TI89 is too small for comfort geometry use, so the program is released only for TI89 plus.

I'm not in geometry and I'd spend $200 for a 92 plus with the geometer's sketch pad. I did have a 92 with the plus module, but I sold it. Now, maybe I should buy the newer 92 plus...

How come the TI-92+ only has one FlashApp for sale, whereas the TI-89 has two? Also how come both Cabri and Geometer's Sketchpad are *FREE* for the TI-92+? The TI-89 only gets a dinky List Editor!!!!?!?!?! WTF is TI thinking? I think there are more TI-89 users and TI should be churning out TI-89 FlashApps not TI-92+ and TI-83+ ones! What's going on?
Note: I do not mean to offend any TI-83+/92+ owners, but you guys get more free apps, and I think that's not fair :(
