They probably think that students have the common sense to know that their calculators are wrong, such as 3^3 not really equaling 81.
Unfortunately, that still affects the test scores ENOUGH, though.

Humorous!@~? It was horrible!@~~@! Add, subtract, multiply, divide, square root, %... thats all! not even one memory! it took 3 of them to equal the surface area of my palm! it sucked! i nearly cried without my 89 on the test... not even my good old TI-30XA...

oh well the test was still a freaking joke and i'm 99% sure i aced it even with that pathetic "calculator"

some of the questions were like what is this number plus this number... literally... and others asked for the y-value of a given x coord that was right on a labeled line

I agree 100%. Casio is the worst kind of calculator you can get. The little blue TI-108's are better than those pieces of junk. And what about that horrible CASIO "color" calculator.? I think we should rid those awful things and get on with our lives.

By the way, this is finally the opportunity to have a TI vs. CASIO vs. HP battle without going off-topic! I Think TI is the best, then HP, then CASIO. CASIO is supposed to make wrist watches, not calculators.

you know, I never understood the numbering system on TI's...I originally though that the higher number you go, the more funcltions you got, but then there are the TI-108's..and they just suck, and then you can probably see that the graphing calcs(7?-92+) seem to go up with functionality, but then we reach the TI-99's which are console gaming systems, so if someone could clarify things, that could help much. thanx.

I think the calc was orgininally like the TI-10 or something, and since it's like a revision or something, it's the TI-108 (think of it as a 10 and then an 8).

Well, from what i think, All calcs below 70 are scientific calculators, and calcs 70-99 are graphing, and anything above in the hundreds range are standard 4 function calcs and anything in the thousands range are printing calcs. (Realize i said 70-99 because the ti-99 was a home computer you hook up to your tv and it is OLD!)

TI vs CASIO vs HP?

No way! Casio doesn't even merit being included in the debate! That color calc of theirs spends more processorl muscle power trying to run a horrible-looking GUI interface and a few hard to discern colors than it does in actual computation! Next thing you know, you'll have Casios running Micro$oft Windows-Casio, and you'll be able to play solitaire in four colors, but only if you allow Windows-Casio Intercalc Explorer take over the calculator...

That "color" calc lacks so much in popularaty, that i never found a single game for that calc. Plus, who would want to because the calc costs about $89 and the "program-link" costs $99. So i really think that if there was a website that has casio "games" on it, it would be one empty "archive".

And the "color" display really sucks. You can barely distinguish one "color" from the others. And the "main menu" really sucks because at the store, it took me more than 5 minutes to figure out that the "run" option was the "home screen" where you calculate the problems.

To mention another thing, the alpha keys are super-hard to use because some are "small" keys and some are "large" keys, so it is REALLy hard to type.

Have you remarked something? Twenty years ago there was race between HP, TI, Sharp and Casio for best calculator. Those four companies are still leading.
And usage of calculators did not change very much. At the bottom there are stupid calcs +-*/M%=, in the middle scientific and "programable" (Casio still has model with 28 bytes of memory) at the top there are pocket computers. The only news are graphic calculators, and symbolic algebra system.

The calculator world was not much changed. Languages are nonstandard, producer tries to hide secrets of machine code programming, the users hack to discover secrets.

During the same period, desktop computers had three generations: ROM-BASIC computers, single task OS and GUI Jumbo OS. A lot of companies went away, and those who have value less than 1000000000$ are not considered successful.
Some leading names from this time like
"Commodore", "Sinclair", "Atari", "Ashton tate", "Fox"
etc. are no longer in business, or bought by giants.

From what I've read (I wasn't actually big enough then to know or care), very few people considered Commodore a leading name. They generally referred to it without the "or" part in the name.

Casio calcs, or should I say trash, may suck but there are some casio products that are worth it, like a watch that is also a remote control (good for pulling pranks in class and on friends), keyboards, and pretty much any non calculator stuff they make. Of course its hard to believe that Casio could get away with such crap that it calculates 7x8=56000. Maby the batteries were weak or it dropped or it was made defective or something unusual, same with their plain calcs, maby their just easily messed up by the environment they are operated in. I don't know Casio should abandon calculators if they keep on making crap like that.

Well, I really forgot was my handwatch Casio or something else, because it was thrown in trash bin ten years ago.

My current handwatch with calc is Casio and it calculates 7x8=56 :-)
